Maybe I could selfishly use the attention that'll be paid to the thread now it's bumped to have someone help diagnose a problem with my poverty pork 987.

It's intermittent, which doesn't help, but the gist of it is that the car has started behaving strangely when the ignition is off.

When it's on, all is good and no odd behavior.

However, when I turn the ignition off to leave the car, the drivers window drops and raises randomly (as if I was pulling the door handle). If I try to lock it, the horn sounds multiple times, again as if it thinks the door is open, then is being closed and opened again. The puddle lights illuminate and stay lit.

If I get back in the car and start it, the puddle lights go out, the window raises to the top, and when opening and closing the door, everything works perfectly.

What's puzzling me is:

1) I don't know how it works out whether the door is open or not - I've read about multiple microswitches but don't know which one to start with
2) Why does starting the engine fix everything? Could this be something as simple as a bad earth?

Any hints appreciated before it ends up back with Porsche.
Needs scanning TBH, but two thoughts, is the carpet dry especially under the passengers seat? Also how old is the battery? With the engine running it will be getting full volts from the alternator.

Carpet is dry, but has previously been wet (and fixed), so could be that.

Battery is brand new. I also noticed the window drops when starting the car (so when the voltage drops), then closes again, so you're definitely on the right track.

Stuck it on a trickle charger overnight and now it's behaving itself. Despite the new battery, it does look like it was just down to a lack of power.

Had a top down drive out in the sun down some twisty roads to a country pub rather than having to pull the door card off. it's really a perfect car for that sort of thing smile

Also worth checking the relay is fully seated - I had some intermittent window issues in my 986 that were eventually fixed by pushing the relay firmly home!

If the new battery continues to it hold charge then either its faulty or your alternator isn't charging properly. You can get a voltage cigarette lighter dongle and watch it as you drive. As the revs rise it should top out at circa 14.4v.

It does only get used at weekends and I travel a lot.
It's probably just complaining I don't use it enough.
Its now on a trickle charger, so hopefully it'll help.

I like the colour also. I don't like the parking sensors.

It's cheap for the miles, but the exterior colour is a matter of opinion. The interior colour is the worst there is imho. I doubt it's anybody's dream car (although someone specced it originally) but it might suit somebody of a head over heart disposition.

The grey really lifts the interior IMO, personally don't understand the default black option that most people rigidly adhere too, so dark & dingy!

Here Here.

I prefer any colour other than Black. My 981 is triple Black and really is boring me.

I know it's not very PH, but I prefer black because it appears to wear better - light interiors looks absolutely lovely...when they are new.

This has been up for sale for a while (approx amonth) but on Autotrader, was up for £1k more. Personally I think the colour is good, especially asgreen cars seem to be making a comeback (see the millionth 911 to come off the production line)

Those factory sensors though are a bit jarring. Also I think sure its fine that its low mileage but has it had a suspension refresh, clutch etc? If they need doing before you know it is costing above the market.

I think someone put it well on the other 996 thread, if this was a dealer car with warranty such as FGP it would have sold by now. Its a big punt (personally) I think to get one of these on a private sale at strong money. Currently anyway

Forest Green, whilst not my first choice of colour, isn't too bad. It'd work very well with a Natural Brown interior, as would Arena Red.

Seemed good VFM for a C4 considering the mileage, but agreed - clutch and suspension arms may require attention.
