Quick poll - are we too late into the year to sell a 987 Boxster?

At the moment mine is taking up garage space since the weather took a turn for the worst.

I'll be changing it for a Panamera in the new year. Do I sell now, or wait until convertible season in FY18?

The serious enquiries for mine have dried up, just stupid bids. I'm going to hold off until next spring.

Guys I'm having dirty thoughts about chopping in my povvo 2002 for a 2.7 987. They do seem very good value, and if I spent around 10 maybe 12k, there's some decent looking cars about.

I love my dirt cheap 2002, but I've never had a really car with good paint, lower miles, etc (I've never spent more than 4 grand on a car either).

Has anyone made the change?

I'd be wanting a 2.7, good colour (guards then!) small wheels.

I'm less interested about detailing and cars that look super shiny. I see people getting super anal about cleaning their cars. To me its just a never ending cycle because - news flash - the world is dirty. I bought a 1998 996 and sure its tatty but I love it. Would I be happier if it was less tatty - I'm not sure. I couldn't give a monkeys what people think when they lool at it. Plus i can leave it lying around wherever without being super worried about it. I know there are owners who put their P cars under a fitted cover in their heated garage buf i don't even have a garage.

Why do you think a car which is less torn up will be better?

But do you look after it mechanically?

Not needed to yet.

I've only had it about 6 months and done 2 or 3000 miles. I had someone give it quick inspection just after i bought it. Stack of bills with the car for new suspension, brakes, tyres and a diy engine rebuild just before i bought it.

I'd like to get it booked in somewhere soon for another once over. But for the time being i just use it occasionally and enjoy it.

I'm sensing the dilemma could be value related. Early 2.7 986 cars now are really at the bottom of 986 values. If you believe your 986 needs a good few quid spending on it then you might question the logic of this if it wont really add much to its value. This i can understand. Put the money towards a newer car instead and it shouldn't need any expensive jobs for a while. Its a tough position to be in and it won't get better till more tatty 986 cars have been broken up or scrapped. Then maybe with less around prices might firm up. Will we ever see 986 cars fetch reasonable money - I'd like to think so. They're ludicrously cheap now.

Pretty much agree. Due to the sheer numbers built the 986 will not per-se be an appreciating classic any time soon. However, I can see the good original spec examples with impeccable history and maintenance existing in a separate market to the chav/street level cars. Hoping the Anniversary will be a good bet. They made less of them than Ferrari did the F40!..I can but dream!

30000 mile
2003
3.2 s
Hardtop
13 grand

Awful description but it is a dealer and so it looks cheap to me considering.

My picture study tells me its got cow on the doors and i think i see the prettier central vents too so could be cow all over.

If that was a similar 911 I'd expect it to 30 grand or more.

I agree which is why its not on my driveway. That 2.7 is fairly robust right?

I got looking [again] because there is an M97 3.8 lump for sale in another auction and apparently that's a simple swapsy. So you'd need a Cayman with a tired lump to start with.

We might just have virtually driven that estimation. laugh

Of course, you never know what is underneath, it's only the first observation looks pretty modest + fun.

I’ve just picked this up, cost less than the wheels for the GT2.

Bonus is that it has the M030 option and full leather, and being a 99 car has the cable throttle. Lovely thing to pedal around in without getting into the craziness of three digits on the speedo in 3rd gear!
