hey mike,
nope didnt get it, just the one ref pads.

thanks for the mapping info. one for the definite file for sure. thats pretty neat. i wonder what the changes are? ive seen RS commonly make less power on dynos than stock GT3 which added to what henry was saying ref the cats i wonder if it runs richer to make the most of the ram air effect. since most people dont run them at these speeds it would explain the cats and the lower dyno (where theres no ram effect).
maybe steve will chip in with some info here, though this is now pretty buried and way off topic.
Hi Neil,

I have to admit Mike was the source of my info re generic ECUs and Porsche supplying the individual files for them smile We discussed it when I complained that the RS lacked bottom and midrange torque compared to the Mk1 engine. I was also informed that the mapping was questionable as the Rs seems to have quite an appetite for cats compared with vanilla Mk2. If the maps doesn't add additional fuel at the top end then I guess at wide open throttle it could be running lean which would kill the cats ?

I suspect that some adjustment would be needed for the "ram air" affect at the top end of the RS power curve, I'd be interested to know whether a different map is also required for lightweight flywheel on the RS. I fitted one to my Mk1 and didn't think the results were as clearcut as when I fitted one to my 993 RS.

I can't remember whether the '6 Mk2 clubsport came with a LWT flywheel, if it did, perhaps Mike can tell us if there's a different map for it ?

Excellent pics of the differences in port sizes btw, those 997 Cup items are massive !

Hi Slippy, the MKII clubsport does not come with LWF as standard only RS versions did. I am going to have mine mapped shortly and will let you know how it goes.

Evening everyone. Three years on from the start of this thread seems a good time to see how the 997.1 GT3s are aging and whether there are any weak points starting to emerge. I'm very tempted by one in comfort spec. This is for regular driving more than track work so race seats would put me off. Miles are quite high - mid-30s - but the car has a good history and a decent warranty. The prices have clearly rocketed since the early days of this thread, so I'd hope I wouldn't be buying at the top of the market, but at the same I want it to drive it, not lock it up and hope the value increases.

Thoughts and opinions gratefully received.

30k miles high haha they are approaching 9-10 year old.

I wouldnt let buckets put you off. Adds to the feel/fun/drama of the car and they are one of the most comfortable seats ive sat in.

Yeah, alright. So it's not high as such... but it's a lot higher than many. I'm a firm believer in cars getting used to keep them running well. I'm driving a Maserati Granturismo at the moment and it gets the right hump if it doesn't get used.

As for the buckets I need to sell it to the wife. Be a good start if it at least looks like a "normal" car!

Personally I would always recommend to get one with buckets and if you can find one within budget - a full Clubsport. If you want comfort seats, source them second hand from eBay and swap them in unless you are saving at least something around £7-10k on the purchase price (keep the buckets and unbolted cage in your garage - if you ever sell then IMHO this will all suddenly make sense).
