They have got to get one off the assembly line and delivery timescales are unknown. Anyone putting their 991 in a hedge might not be seeing it again for quite some time… How on earth they can say that, I don't know. It's a standard 997 PDK wheel, I've got one sitting in my garage doing nowt so you would expect them to be able to find one from somewhere. That was the exact same crap I had to put up with when ordering my paddle shift wheel 16 months ago, when apparently they couldn't source one either.

Thought it seemed smaller and a slightly different shape from the 997 one. I stand to be corrected.

This is what I was trying to say above, some people want their car to be raw, in need of taming and a bit hairy-arsed. They want to make it all work. I prefer the sublime sensation of driving something nearly perfect.
Interesting comments Manks, would you say that it is a wee bit detatched, but in a 'nice' way? I'm keen to know how it rides, more compliant than a 997 maybe? I think the only change I would make from your spec is the wheels, but I need to see them in the flesh first.

No it is not in the slightest bit detached or any of the other adjectives meaning "numb" that have been tossed about by journos. What they are referring to is that in the old cars the steering jiggles about a lot and it doesn't on the 991, basically. You can still feel the road, feel exactly what the car is doing and feel involved. I appreciate that in saying this I am contradicting a number of well-respected commentators but that is my take on things and I have driven quite a lot of Porsches. I think that too many people were expecting the 991 to be more of the same and it's not, it's different. Completely different. And I like what they have done.

You've really whetted my appetite now! On a more prosaic note, are you happy with your choice of colour?

Apart from evo group test I've not read any anything that says it doesn't handle better than a 997 ,I have had numerous 911s and then an r8 which I thought handling wise was miles ahead of the 997s ,I thought the 991s I tried as good as the r8 in that sense, compared to the 997 models it's more agile and just feels better balanced, and as you said offers plenty of communication ,I could still feel what the road was doing beneath me.

Though I must say that white looks a lot better in the flesh than in snaps - or perhaps that's my dodgy photography. My favourite colours for the 991 are Carrara white (it's free too) and Lime Gold. The rear badging is challenging. The full script looks awful. It works (just) on the Cayenne I think but on the 991 it's too much. The "911" badge looks like something bought from a local car spares place. I thought the "Porsche" only was the best option, though I don't think it is perfect. I think "Carrera S" on its own would be the very best option, but as far as I can make out that option cannot be selected.

Thoughts about the exhaust:
I chose Switchable Sports Exhaust because my 997 had it and it was too difficult not to have it this time. But I am not sure how important it is anymore. In fact, whisper it, but I think I might prefer the sound of the car with it switched off. It's less bassy and more natural sounding.
Interestingly though the standard exhaust doesn't sound as good as the Sports Exhaust in "off" mode. Different pipe, completely different sound.
If you want to keep the budget somewhere near sensible (ha ha) sports exhaust is no longer the must have that once it was. Not from a user's perspective that is; but for resale who knows...

Nice car Manks - I think those wheels only work well with the light colours, white especially.

Manks, with such a high spec why did you not opt for the Sports Plus steering with the paddles?
