Got a 2001 Boxster S but no scuttle shake even on rough roads - although I did try 9 varying quality secondhand examples before buying this one.

Very solid car can't compare it to these other mass produced "sports cars". Exige is a great track car though. Very practical - space for luggage and two cruising europe. 26+mpg. 130mph cruising. Etc.

Please put me down for the 300bhp GT3/RS/TT version!!

Not quite a record on revitalising an old thread.

well i thought i would revitalise a bit further.

Looking at the 3.2s on or after the 2002 facelift. Are people still as impressed with this car and is the scuttle shake issue any further noticed on the cars as they have seen higher mileage (seeing as this thread is a few years old!)

We have 2 Boxsters 986 and 987 and there is 100% no scuttle shake in either, the balance of these cars is superb. Love it.

Mine has covered 75k (02 car) and is as rock solid. Wapping has cobblestones and the only thing that rattles are the CDs I put in the door bins.

IMHO when the sun shines, the traffic is light and the road is twisty there is nothing I can think of that would put a bigger grin on my face. Stick it in 4th or 5th and between 40 and naughty speeds, you have all the punch you need to flow along a good road. Throw a tunnel into the mix and some high rpm. Heaven.......

There is no excuse. Buy one now.

Interesting. Am I going to feel like it was £10k+ well spent to go from a 986 s to a 987 s?

I've been driving a 2001 986S for the last 3 years and in 30,000 miles I've never experienced any scuttle shake.

The Boxster has to be the perfect all-round everyday car except it only has 2 seats.

Well for the interior improvement then yes my 986 is a bit plasticy if thats such a word and although the 987 interior is bland its far more solid and better finished off, i feel that my 986 is a little bit more raw than the 987 but i think the 987 is everything the 986 was but just slightly better in most areas..

Same here, was thinking of the 986S initially, but with the way 987S prices have come down, I am leaning towards the newer model. Should I wait another 6 months before buying....will they depreciate much more. Did I read somewhere here that a facelift ws planned for this year?

I dont think they've stopped dropping yet, i think once the facelift comes out then you will pick up 987's even cheaper. Its a buyers market at the minute lots of bang for ya buck in the classifieds. Im hoping for a 996turbo if i have a good year lol..

When is the facelift model due? I am after a 987S, have the cash waiting..but just waiting until the right moment in terms of depreciation before I part with the cash. Test drove one the other day...amazing bit of kit, first time I've driven one, Didn't know I was doing 90 until I looked at the speedo! How long do you think before they hit the early 20's mark?

october i think a 06 s will hit low 20's. The CO2 charge will add more cars to the market. thats the car I am looking to buy but hanging on as I think they ar going to take a large hit in next 6 months.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

And I'm still driving the same car, and I haven't had a call from the OPC about the > 300bhp Boxster yet.

thought i'd give this a bit more of a revival!!

Great car the Boxster S, had a 986S for a while and its superb, in fact I can say its the only car i've had that has been more fun than my MX5.

Not brilliant on the rattles, I wouldn't say I have experienced scuttle shudder/shake, but a few rattles of interior fittings like the wind deflector can be a let down. Having said that, I wouldn't even consider any other 2 seater sports car of equivalent cost now i've had one.

Back again!

My car (now six years old) has developed a range of minor rattles but still no scuttle shake. Power steering has become "creaky" though so it's into the OPC tomorrow for them to look at it.

No mention of nose-diving during hard braking (like rolling from back to front, though flat during corners (left-right)) ? At least that what I remember from the 252bhp version. And a few other things. Oh well, I'm not a journalist, I'm only a critic wink

What sort of rattles? My car is 6 years old too with 78k on the clock and is still tight. The only rattles are from the tat that the other half sometimes leaves in the door bins! Indeed, my car is stiffer and tighter than the caged turbo MX5 it replaced.

That's called weight transfer. It's normal. wink
