Porsche dealers always tell you that they have long waiting lists for whichever model you enquire about and then call you the next day with one that has miraculously 'become available' and is an opportunity not to be missed etc. There are plenty of new 911's available if you look around but I doubt they will knock much off them.

As for Porsche residuals, my local dealer couldn't be bothered to come out of his office when I offered to sell him my new model 10 month old Cayenne Turbo in 2011. This was five minutes after the sales guy had told me there were none available for sale anywhere in the country new or used! Since then have stuck to Range Rovers, easy to sell, and lose far less money as long as you buy them at the right price.

There is a little bit of movement on a new 991, will confirm the amount early next week.
Sorry, forgot about this thread.

I was offered £2K off a new 991 specced at £105K. So that's 1.9% discount!

I must say again though that the steering would NOT stop me from buying a 991S because, quite honestly, it's the sort of car that would make your grandmother feel like a 'driving god' and that's a feeling I think most of us rather enjoy. biggrin

Spot on. I bet that the majority of 'learned moaners' on this topic probably would really enjoy (and feel flattered about) such a feeling derived from their car!

No I didn't. I'm too happy with my Turbo, and £103K is just too much money for an S.

Must have been one hell of a spec at £105k, mind you very easy to do! So did you seriously consider it or were you just curious to get a price?

Thought about it, but really missed the grunt of the Turbo.

It was PDCC, PSE and PCCBs that really added to the price.

I enquired about a 991 s. Had a 997.1 at one point then switched to m3 dct. The former was a 4 yr old car when I bought it, barely depreciated anything in the year of ownership. Probably best buy I have ever made aside the lotus sport 190 I found last year... The m3 is another story. Depreciated like a stone despite buying used, perfect spec and new my wih the new satnav.

Coming to incentives, was offered 0 discount, awful trade in for the m3, worse than the guys from the radio.. And 9pct apr on finance. Grv were equally appalling. But, they did phone me within couPle of days to tell me April slot was available. Am talking 1mth delay to get fully specced 991. This is unseen. When 997.1 came out there was 12mth delay to get one. Evo long termer was sold after 6 or 9 months for a mere couple of grand depreciation.

So no, don't think it's worth that money, there are some on the classifieds already trading at 10k discount, 11pct, private ownership 500 miles... So either they cut production, offer lower apr, improve grv or take out uk of a recession, or I don't see how they can shift many more. The City is not buying 911 guys, it's as simple as that!

As for the boxster, I agree with Harris, it could be just the right thing to plug hole. Actually I like it quite a lot, it's small, light and good looking. And probably more alive thing to interact with. BUT decently specced one with the new toys is 60k.... Ouch.

M3 is just so good I might hold on for used ones to hit market, but a little roadster for the summer might just be too tempting..

The black one at safwat on ph is as close to 10k off list I think...I haven't priced it up properly but I don't think my guess is far out.

frankie68 - how does the E90 M3 compare to the 997.1? I had a 997.1 C2S and am thinking of an E90 M3 (new or nearly new). Is it a step forward/backwards/sideways? I had a demonstrator for 24 hrs and my initial thoughts were - engine, build and mile eating were amazing but a little less driver involvement - particularly the stearing. Though I imagine it would be a blast on track.

I haven't owned an E90 M3, but have had a play on track around Goodwood with a good friend who does.

If its track involvement, the 997 C2S is ahead and certainly around Goodwood with two reasonable drivers the 997 is faster and a better track day car. I found his M3 fast, great gear changes and generally competent but............the 997 C2S was much better around the track.

He also had to change brakes in between track days simply because the standard ones from factory were fading very, very quickly and not up to the job, something I've not experienced in my car.

I havent owned an e90 m3 ,I drove one before I bought my r8 and was very dissapointed ,being a long time 'm' car fan i found it very uninvolving especially the steering ,the engine is astonishing but only if you absolutely thrash it,its a very useable car,but I genuinely dont get the reverence the press seem to have for it,I drove 3 and none seem to match up to how the press rate it.

I stand to be corrected but that doesn't look like 10k off. Nor is it delivery miles or current reg. I haven't seen too many others at less than list.

Don't get me wrong, values are only going one way but I haven't seen any cheap cars yet.

93k on the configurator ,so wasnt a bad guess ? bear in mind this is a dealer as well so there is good margin at that price for him so what did he pay ?
I dont think the 991 will depreciate as bad as some think,I think the relative lack of sales will ensure strong pricing for a while.

Thanks to you and hohoho for the comments, interesting, particularly the point about not feeling special unless you are driving at 10/10ths, which I should imagine is not the case in the R8.

In reference to the original posters point: I think the rate at which 991 prices will depreciate (or new 991 cars will be discounted) will depend on the volumes that Porsche are trying to shift relative to demand (at the risk of stating the obvious..). As has already been pointed out Demand is possibly lower than at the launch of the 997 due to the current economic climate and the fact that the 991 price has increased in real terms over the 997. However Porsche may not be attempting to shift as many 991s as they did with the 997 given all the other models they have to drive revenue. I think I read that the Cayenne is now the best seller. I think we will see 991s depreciate more slowly than 997s did.
