Anyone managed to squeeze a discount out of a dealer yet ?
Or any incentives being given to help move them out the showroom ?

Having a look at mo - OPC has indicated "movement" on 991 S he has with decent spec, though I'd prefer 4S his is a 2S. Dealer was suggesting Sept before a 4S could be delivered, didn't press further as the chop in on 996tt was comical, they had my car in for work the last couple of weeks so had a good chance to look it over... still can't make my mind up as like the 991.

I may go into a GT or another Turbo though until Porsche release the new GT or Turbo cars late next year or early 14.

Would be interested in what incentives or discount folks are aware of.

I don't think so. It's an amazing car but I think they've overstepped the mark with the pricing and especially so in this economic climate. I feel more comfortable paying £105k for a specced 991 GT3 than I do paying £92k for a specced 991S.

In Chris Harris's roadtest of the Boxster S, he states, "In the context of the marketplace only one of these really matters: on looks alone the Boxster could plug the hole created by slow 991 sales in the UK."

So, the question is, what are they going to do to get sales moving? I don't see them discounting a new car so it's got to be about the trade in value of part exchanges?

Regardless of what some people think of them, I've always liked Boxsters. They're a great handling, mid-engined, practical two seater convertible. So, till the GT3 comes along, I'm seriously contemplating buying a Boxster S for the meantime unless there's a good incentive to buy a 991S.

My guess is they will offer bigger guaranteed future values.

It was very low when I enquired a few months back but the whole market is pretty terrible of late for any new vehicle. I've just been offered an £85000 61 plate M5 for £68000 which is less than 6 months old with just a couple of thousand on the clock.

Imo once numbers start stacking up you will be looking at a £25000/£30000 loss in first year of ownership if you are selling back to a dealer on a new 991.

I think it will be closer to £20k but I'm inclined to agree. Firstly it's priced too high and secondly new cars are taking a hammering. I guess Porsche may have to do what Mercedes/Lamborghini et al do and subsidise the cost of purchase by offering incredible lease/purchase deals with generous dealer contributions. At the end of the day, they need to move stock.

Porsche are owned by VW who made £16bn profit last year. VW will want to see Porsche making a profit, but I doubt they'll be rushing for the panic button.

Maybe I've been watching too many repeats of Top Gear on Dave, but to me the 911 has always been a £65k car (excluding turbocharged variants). How the hell did it become a £100k one? And as for the subject of depreciation, having explored this with a dealer a few years ago I reckon £30k is more like it for first year depreciation. I really can't see a dealer offering £80k for a 1 yr old 911 that cost £100k new, especially given the negative press the current car's steering is getting.

I really don't see the problem with the 991's steering! I had one for 24 hours a couple of weeks ago and it offered good feel, I believe it is the same system as used on the Cup cars.

Go and try one and then report back......

It all depends on what you're used to and your expectations. I had a 991S for a few days and I think it's a stunning car. However, the steering was somewhat 'numb'. This lack of 'feel' inspires greater confidence and I was going through bends much faster than I would in my GT3. If you've read the recent EVO, you may have read that there's a lack of the tell tale signs when you're close to the limit; I agree.

You do get used to the new 'feel' and most 991 drivers will never fully exploit their cars because, quite simply, it's nothing more than a status symbol for most. It remains a stunning car and the steering 'feel' wouldn't stop me from buying one however the price/risk of high depreciation does.
