They didn't need to make an S version of the 997.1 turbo. According to a recent article in total 911 its the best turbo ever made!

There is no doubt that the 997.1 Turbo is the best Turbo Porsche has ever made and the way things are going Mr Volkswagen it's going to stay that way for ever. Long live the king driving

probably..in a beauty contest i judge it as the following:

1.930
2.964 t
3.993 t
4.996 t
5.997 t

you don't buy a turbo for looks though - well i don't anyway. All GT2s do rule as far as modern pork turbos go.

A 996 Turbo prettier than a 997 Turbo? Are you 'aving a giraffe? eek

In my book, the 997 is only over-shadowed in looks by the 964 Turbo.

A low miles 997.1 Turbo is just a low miles used car so any problems it could have could be just new car problems that come to light as you drive the car and add miles.

A warranty would be nice.

I bought a low miles (~10K) 996 Turbo with a 2 year/100K mile warranty and I'm glad I had the warranty. I was surprised because my 02 Boxster except for a leaking RMS at 25K miles didn't have any problems until 80K miles.

Sincerely,

Rockster.

I have purchased a 997 Turbo Gen 1, low'ish mileage at 20k with the OPC 2 year warranty,

What a truly awesome car, but then again, all I have to compare it against was my previous motor a 2003 Boxster S 986.
I am looking forward to putting some miles on the clock and experiencing what it can do up to the point of my experience and limitations

^^ This. I stepped out of a 997.2 Turbo S for a manual 997.1 Turbo and I actually prefer it.

Especially with a Sport(short) Shifter. More fun/involved driving.

Totally understandable if you have Driven a gen one manual with short shift, and better still with ceramics lowering the weight at each corner driving
