I attended the launch last Thursday at OPC Cardiff. The list price of rhe Boxster S is just over 44k yet the specced price of the three cars at the launch was 56k,61k and 65k.I personally believe that when you pay a relatively high price for a car you should have most of the options as standard and only a few options to spec yourself. If people are happy to pay 10k -30k on optiond to spec their car then fair enough but seams silly to me to spend another 50% of the car value on options.
Although I am a 911 owner if I was going to buy a Boxster I would want maximum bang for my buck.I would buy a non S in Aqua blue,20" Carrera S wheels, mats, delete model discription, manual, sports exhaust and sports design steering wheel.Total price £41708 and to me would seam quite good value for money and would look identicle to a Boxster S yet still do 164mph,0-60 in 5.8 seconds and 34.4 mpg and you do not need any more performance in this day and age.
Also save me 20k-25k on a heavily specced Boxster S.
Agreed although why be ashamed of having a non-S. Even more fun when you outgrip much (theoretically) faster cars. The PSE on the 2.9 wails like Porsches of yore. The tuned 2.7 PSE on the 981 will be something special.
My sneaking suspicion is you don't need a faster car when everything else around you is so much slower but the S is nice for the odd times.
going back to 19inch rubber will be hard, the 18s are just so right, so much fun.
20inch rubber will be fun in the high-summer, probably hateful at all other times.

You don't like itNobody else likes it
You can never sell it again
HTH!
One of my partners at work has the new Z4 in red with beige. It looks ok but wouldn't be my choice!
My mrs has ordered the agate/pebble interior which I'm a little worried about but it could be a cracker!!

I'd not have chosen that interior if I has bought it brand new, but now I can't imagine having a black interior on a dark coloured car.
In terms of resale, a lot of people will hate it, but plenty will like it too and they will have less to choose from.

That looks cracking! I would not hesitate ordering that On the subject of colour, I can't decide between Agate Grey or White on my new S. Never thought I'd go for white, but the pics look great (black hood & interior). Thought it may be a bit 'Essex/Cheshire'? Any help gratefully received.
Also, any thoughts on the 20" wheels. I reckon they look great, but worried about the hard ride/handling compromise. Thanks, guys.

Mine's around £61k, if you're not close to £60k you're not really trying!
Only way I kept it from being more was no full leather, no PSE, no cruise, no dimming mirrors, etc.
Most of the optional costs come from PDK and PCM, if you want an auto and Nav, which probably the majority do, it's not really a £47k starting price, it's more like £52k. Then a couple of grand for stuff that should be standard like metallic paint, rear parking, auto aircon, cruise, dim mirrors, so more like £55k. Then you choose wheels, PASM, PSE, etc, and the over priced Sport Chrono which you could probably live without. Very pricey options but make the car very special.
Only really possible to get low 50's if you want a manual and forgoe the PCM.
The biggest problem is the base price around £47k OTR is unrealistic but increases depreciation! Would be better if the base price was higher and it had as standard what other £50k cars include as standard. A £32k BMW X3 2.0 has standard metallic paint, rear parking, cruise, auto aircon, dimming mirror, etc. The £38k 3.0 has auto as standard. Both will lose a lot less in the first year than a moderately specced PDK boxster.
Spec it how you want it and keep it for at least 3 years ...
