Hi all,

Getting further down the buying process.

Regarding getting a tracker fitted...My Porsche dealer has told me, that the third party trackers cause loads of problems with the new boxster...so surprise, surprise its fit the Porsche one, or don't do it is the advice from the dealer.

Is he telling me porkie pies?

TIA

No info on 3rd party compatibility however the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) is very expensive to fit - my dealer said "would you really want it back if it was nicked?" and that it's quite rare to fit the system to a Boxster. You ultimately decide I guess.

Some insurance companies require a tracker system, but some don't (Porsche Insurance for example), so any perceived savings on insurance could easily be wiped out by the cost of the VTS system in the first place

^agree with above.

IIRC the issue with 3rd party trackers is that they technically invalidate the *extended* warranty on the car (should it be discovered) as they're non-OEM modifications.

Quick question:

If you don't opt for 573 option: 2-zone automatic air conditioning £ 518.00

What do you get? i.e. is it 1-zone automatic air conditioning? Like in my 987 Boxster, it's got an Auto button and you set the temp in 0.5 degree steps.

981 standard a/c is basic .. no temp readout, everything manual. Think dial from blue to red but with bars instead.

standard a/c is poor, I was constantly fiddling with it .. which is a pain as the controls are just ahead of the gearshift.

Ah, thanks, so more basic than the basic a/c in the model before then. frown

I would definitely spec the 2-zone climate if you can, without it it's just a user adjustable cold air blower system and a pain to use - should really be standard on a car like this IMO, but it isn't

I wouldn't bother paying extra for the 2 zone climate.

I paid extra in my previous two 987's and still had to keep upping or lowering the temp.

My 981 has the non climate and works fine. Looks neat and less fussy too.

Just my opinion of course

Ah yes, the great air con, con.

Have to say I was upset when I took delivery of my 981 to find that single climate was not there and it was 'just air con'.

Mind you having lived with it, it works quite well. Two zone is crackers for such a small cabin in my opinion in any case. Single auto would have been nice.

^^ This. Can't imagine you can create 2 climate zones in an open top car where you are sitting 6 inches apart. Didn't spec it on my Box S and don't regret it. Yes, the standard is fiddly with the gear lever in the way until you get used to it but once you do you will change settings without looking. Spend the money on something more interesting, PTV, PSE etc etc.

Indeed and it seems odd that the new car has a system that is a retrograde step from the previous car.

Climate was an option on the 987.2 though (at least it was on my Spyder).

I was disappointed when I discovered what was fitted to my Cayman but in reality it has been absolutely fine and works well.

Automatic climate (single zone wink ) was standard on my 987.2 Boxster. It's exactly what I expected as standard on the 981.

Agreed, that was more what I was trying to get at. I've never really understood the need for 2-zone on any car that I've had but single auto climate control should be standard on the 981. Set the temp and forget about it rather than having to manually adjust the airflow. Another example of Porsche squeezing every penny via the options list I'm afraid

Another confirmation that auto climate on 987.2 was an option.......... (at extra cost)

Ah ok, I was under the mistaken belief that it was standard. I bought my car as a dealer demo vehicle and as they didn't mention the A/C during their spiel I assumed it was std. wink

To be honest, I never found any 'climate control' to really work. I used to set it at 18c , but it would be too hot in the summer yet too cold in the winter. If it worked correctly, it should feel like 18c all the time!!!

If I remember correctly, the non climate control looked horrible in the 987's, but the non climate looks really neat in the 981. The salesman convinced me not to bother with the climate in the 981. He showed me a demo without it. I can honestly say, I have not regretted my decision.

Another so called 'must have' which I ticked for both my 987's was partial leather. I went alcantara for my 981 and it looks and feels excellent!

Mine has worked well in all the cars I've owned. But then I never set it to 18c. The magic number seems to be 21c or thereabouts.

Hi,
Is the options list with UK prices available anywhere on the net?

Thanks

Hi
Have a 981 Spyder. The car was specked with special light pack. The dipped beam seems to be adjusted too high, but I can’t find details of how to lower.

Is this possible without taking into a garage?
