When speccing your pride and joy, consider opting for the smoking package, as I believe it will give you an extra 12v outlet, if that's important to you.
What a disappointment! I was expecting you to say smoking jacket and slippers!

I'm not saying keen drivers should go for PDK, only that there will be some people that love driving (we know a number of people buy porsche's for the status and a cruise down the high street) and want PDK will also want SC. If I bought the Boxster for my wife she would want PDK, but SC would be wasted on her smile

(or maybe Agate/Pebble - any thoughts on this)
See my comments to another thread, Agate interior is more brown than grey. Not a problem, if you like it.

Electic memory seats - anybody know if this incl auto dipping mirror when in reverse?
Yes, I understand that the memory seats do give the swivel down passenger door mirror when selecting reverse. I showed this to a friend with a 997 who had owned the car for 3 years and didn't know it did that, as you have to select the passenger mirror on the electric mirror control before it functions. This allows you to disable it by just not leaving the mirror control with the passenger mirror selected.

The electric memory seats is one of the options I'm most keen on and I'm surprised so few people seem to select them. The four way electric lumbar support is the main reason, but the reversing mirror swivel and the fact that the steering wheel and chair move out of your way to allow you to get in and out is cool. And of course, the fact that the chair, steering wheel and mirrors are always where you left them, even if someone else has been driving the car.

Unsure options (advice happily accepted)
PASM
Sport Chrono
PSE
As said elsewhere, I would have PASM before Sport Chrono and several other options.

Good luck speccing your car. I worked on the principle that I intended to keep the car for many years and might miss some options much longer than I would miss the money they cost. I guess we all have to draw the line somewhere, but I would err on the safe side and order anything I really felt I might miss. Most options are very hard to retro fit and it's very expensive to swap your car if you really miss something.

I find it helps to remind myself how much a decently specced 991 Cab costs!

Also, paying such a lot of money for what is basically a toy is not really a logical thing, it is more emotional so you should get what feels right. This is why I have the paddle shifts and the sport chrono, even though the SC is far too much money for what it gives.

Cheers,

Geoff

A few more thoughts ...

PASM also lowers the car by 10mm. Some people think a lower look, with the wheels 10mm nearer the arches gives a sportier look?

I didn't bother with the climate control as it is over priced (and probaly should be standard). I always have the roof open and the first thing I have to do is turn the blasted fan down to stop the auto mode trying to cool the whole atmosphere. This has driven me mad in both my previous boxster and even my wife's Audi estate and both live permanently set to low fan speed so I can't hear the fans. I have never had a problem with the temperature and it is easy enough to nudge it up or down if I need to. It does look a bit cheap without the temperature control, though.

In the end I had much better things to spend £530 on, especially in a soft top.

Tried to live without BOSE but the Porsche Sound System I tried in a couple of 991's was really disappointing so after back to back testing I decided BOSE was required to get decent speakers.

I found the colour the hardest thing to choose, especially as you can't yet see the cars in the flesh. Looking at a 991 helps a bit, but they are different cars and what looks good on one may not suit the other. I would have liked a gun-metal grey like many Aston Martin's and Audi's.

In reality, almost all the colours look nice when clean and polished, especially in the showroom, and you spend most of your time looking at the interior.

Cheers,

Geoff

I have to agree with Geoff as he commented on another post.

Tried the sound systems out today and the Bose sounds much crisper in all different wind environments from low speed to full on throttle - Thats why I just added it to my spec today.

Please see below comments from another post which I put on earlier regarding colour and PSE

I went and drove the 911S with sports exhaust today and you can definitely say it sounds like a real race car with it - That doesnt mean to say it is does not sound good without cos it does but if you want the boxster to sound like a race car it is definetely for you. I would not get this just so other people will know your in the vicinity however once I wound down the windows and heard all the revs being dumped through the exhaust on the down shift it is like listening to an orchestra. This is simply a big part of the pleasure driving the boxster for me anyway (And you can turn it off on your late night returns home so not to wake the kids when you pull up on the drive)

As for the brown hues in the Agate grey paint work - I have a grey Audi Q7 of which i love the colour however parked at the side of the Agate grey it kind of pails into insignificance as the Porsche colour is just a much livelier shade of grey - It really brings the car to life even as it was hissing it down today all the reflections and colours shine off the paintwork.

I was of the same opinion as Geoff and was going to play safe with the silver as it was illustrated in all of the literature however once I seen the Agate grey colour again and imagined it on the 981 boxster I can certainly say it will pick up all of the beautiful lines of the car magnificently possibly better than the silver as we parked it next to the other 2 silver coloured cars on the lot. (Photos seem to pick the brown hues up of the Agate grey much more than in real life) My opinion anyway - thats why I have certainly put my reservations straight to one side and finally specced up the Agate grey..........

Exactly how I feel, I can't understand not having something because you fear losing money?

PSE is an essential option, Sports Chrono you can live without especially, as the Sport button is standard.

I have em all on my car, PASM is great to.

I would only need Sport Plus on the 2.7 when burning off AUDI 3 Litre cars and S3's from the lights :>

Launch control on the car is all well and good but where could you use it? Nowhere. And if you did manage to use it you would look like a tit.

OK order for Mrs' car went in as follows

Boxster 981 S
Agate Grey
Agate/Pebble grey leather pack
PDK
PCM + Phone
Porsche Crest on headrest
Sport Design steering wheel
Seat heating
Light design pack
2-zone climate (thanks for the heads up on this one!)
Cruise control
PASM
Folding mirrors
Dimming mirrors
F&R park assist
Adaptive Xenons
14 way electric & memory sports seats
TPM
20" Carrera Classic Wheel with colour Porsche crest
Aluminium look roll over bar with wind deflector
BOSE
Sport Chrono

So I guess pretty much the only thing it is missing is the PSE but I should get it in May as opposed to July and I have the new V8 RS4 coming in September which will have/get a sports exhaust for maximum effect and I also have a quite highly modified s/charged Exige with a 2bular exhaust (Lotus people will understand) which gives some great sounds. I am sure the standard non PSE equipped car will not be that bad on the sound front - I guess I may just miss out on some of the over-run cackles.

Looking forward to getting it - I imagine the Mrs may get lumbered with my X5 until the RS4 turns up so I can have some fun in my 'first' Porker!

Nice spec smile

Keep £2k back to add the PSE.

Is your dealer saying May delivery to you as it seems a little optimistic if you have only just given him your spec and the spec isn't locked down. As I understand it at 4 weeks prior to build your spec gets locked down. Car might then turn up 3 weeks later. So this seems to take your earliest delivery into June. Hope I'm wrong for your sake.

Hi all, first time poster.

I ordered a Red S at the end of February with a May build. The wait is painful!

It will be a daily drive and replaces my 4 year old S2000.

Spec:

  • Boxster S
  • 6-speed manual transmission
  • Guards Red
  • Black leather Sports seats Plus (2-way)
  • Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) incl. mechanically locking rear differential
  • Black Cabriolet Roof
  • BOSE® Surround Sound System
  • Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module with universal audio interface
  • Sport Chrono Package
  • SportDesign steering wheel
  • Preparation for mobile phone
  • Seat ventilation
  • Light design package
  • Seat heating
  • Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
  • Mesh wind deflector
  • Bi-Xenon lighting system with Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
  • Sports seats Plus (2-way, electric)
  • Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPM)
  • 20-inch Carrera Classic wheel
  • Floor mats
Left a few things off that would be nice but I don't really need. Such as full leather and 2 zone air con (not missed it on the current motor).

Booked in at Silverstone for the driver training on June 18th. Note: they told me they only have PDK transmissions during May.

"I have received your order form signed so thank you and the good news is that we have managed to secure one of the very first builds as we amended one of our own cars to your specification, so hopefully an early May build. I will of course keep you updated as I look daily and will forward you my findings."

Lucky bar steward - you'll practically be driving away from the launch event in your own car...

ETA: Wivelrod, good spec - possibly lacking PSE from my perspective, but I haven't heard the standard car so perhaps being a bit hasty.

The standard car sounds very refined and certainly top down there was very little exhaust note. I have added PSE to my car after hearing the standard car.

Nice spec. You have PCM, so why not the telephone module for PCM. Sure your prep for mobile phone is not a mistake. You MIGHt lose some integration.

Sounds good smile I would keep checking with them for a build date though as I still think the car is at least 4 weeks away from being built. Earlier in the week I only met one owner with a completion date - towards the end of May, but this was a 2.7.
