Just back from a few hours at Silverstone along with about 25 other deposit holders on the 981.

Great to meet a few other owners to be and get to see the car in the flesh as well as enjoy a ride driven by the professionals. Also got to learn a few things talking to the Product Manager.

Manual vs PDK

Despite two OPC's saying that they hadnt sold a manual car it seems the S has about a 60 (PDK)/40 split at the moment. Early adopters tending to like the manual a little more now. As time goes on they feel it will lean even more towards the PDK. Interestingly they feel the 2.7 will be a higher % of manual over pdk than the S. PDK on all cars

20" Ride Quality non PASM

Had hoped to get some feedback on this, but all cars at the moment have PASM. Advised to go for PASM.
All cars there today had 20" wheels

Colours

They only had Red, Yellow, White and Black. I know I wasnt alone in saying that the Black car lost a lot of the detail on the doors. The lighter colours really helped. The Yellow looked good, if only I was that brave. Product Manager said Agate with red roof looks stunning, but he also sang the praises of Anthracite Brown and Aqua Blue.

Phone Prep

The Boxster has CDR31 as std which is different from the CDR30 in the current Boxster. Having an Iphone I wanted to see if the integration was better so I can live without PCM. Waiting for a definitive answer, but hoping it is after our talk and that the address book transfers automatically. Sorry not much of a petrol head topic smile

PSE

All the cars were non PSE. After having had a Spyder and earlier in the day going out in a Spyder with PSE the std car sounded dull. Way too refined and lacking in aural pleasure smile Roof down it just didnt cut the mustard. I know this is personal choice but this is now a must have option for me, going to wait another month to have it.

Some pics from the day. It was all filmed so in a couple of weeks there will be a professionaly shot version out.

i think the white and red cars do it for me!
still wouldnt buy one until it gets more power(less power than a spyder and slower than a spyder on paper)and they improve that horrible rear spoiler.so a spyder version it is but will have to wait about 5 years!

I want one so badly it hurts. And for the first time ever, I like the yellow... Think I need to drop some hints at my OPC so I can have a go at Silverstone. Though I'm afraid that if I do that, I'll end up buying one...
Oh, and I agree - black doesn't look nearly as good as the lighter colours. If Monkey Harris' assertion that this is the best car Porsche makes is right, this is going to be a winner.

racing yellow is not a patch on speed yellow.

RY is more shouty, more chav and has less 'personality'.

Irrespective of power/speed I think these look brilliant, and prefer it to the 991.

However, with the 987, I'd never have bought one if it weren't for the Spyder.
However much I *think* I'd like a 981, I really don't know if I would be happy swapping the Spyder for one.

If a Spyder version arrived in the next year or two, then my mind would be made up for me.

This new Boxster really does look magnificent...

They are on to a serious winner with this, even more so that the 991 doesn't do it for a lot of people it seems.

Not usually a fan of Boxsters in red but that one looks fantastic. Definitely not keen on the black either.

I like the 991 but a not lot more than the 997

The 981 looks fantastic and is leaps and bounds above the 987

First time boxster has looked as good as the 911, and if I didn't need rear seats I would save the money and get a 981.

Hopefully the new Cayman will take after the 981 and also be a big improvement looks wise

On those pictures yellow and white would be my pick, not colours I would normally consider

The pic of the black car - is that VBH in the background ?

Also, considering the cars are with 20" wheels, they really don't look oversized to me.

Forget VBH - isn't that Don Johnson in the white one? The 981 has redefined "cool".

I love the look of the new 981........I'm seriously thinking of ordering one very soon !!! I played around on the configurater the other evening and the Agate gray with the red roof and Carrera red interior looked stunning (to me anyway) by the time I specced the toys it was up to £62 plus, OUCHeek !! Think i'll have to trim that down a bit??

If I ever get me mitts on one it will be instantly un-cool.
Beware.

yes the o-62 times are the same but 0-99mph the manual spyder is 0.2 second quicker and the pdk spyder in sport plus is nearly half a second quicker.but more importantly is the flexibility,50-75mph in 5th gear
spyder is 6.1secs manual
981s is 6.7secs manual

so on paper the spyder is quicker manual or pdk

oh i forgot power
spyder 320 hp/370nm torque
981s 315hp/360nm torque
weight
spyder 1275kg
981s 1320kg

usually new porsches have more power than the out going model?( ie 987gen1 295hp rs60 303hp gen2 310hp???????)
so why didnt the 981s have at least 325hp?

The shot of the yellow one looks dreadful - must be lens distortion? Otherwise what a cracking looking car the new Boxster is. Will be worth a look for me in a few years. Curious to see what the PSE is like.
