SFO said(less power than a spyder and slower than a spyder on paper)
0-62 for Spyder: 5.1 sec
0-62 for 981S: 5.1 sec
Top speed Spyder: 166mph
Top speed 981S: 173mph
yes the o-62 times are the same but 0-99mph the manual spyder is 0.2 second quicker and the pdk spyder in sport plus is nearly half a second quicker.but more importantly is the flexibility,50-75mph in 5th gear
spyder is 6.1secs manual
981s is 6.7secs manual
so on paper the spyder is quicker manual or pdk
The PDK's flexibility from 50-75 is 3.0 vs 3.1 in favour of the Spyder. So not a lot in it. Your next post shows that it's the weight saving of 40kg that helps make some of the difference. In reality though most Spyders have aircon and radio spec'd back in. That nearly halves the weight saving. Ditch the buckets and the Spyder is nearly the same weight. In fact when you can spec the buckets in the 981 it will save 12kg. 0-62 for Spyder: 5.1 sec
0-62 for 981S: 5.1 sec

90% of Spyders I have seen for sale, my own one included had air and radio at least.
With the rumoured turbo charged Boxster on the way in the next 18-24 months they need to leave a gap power wise. That said I would still of liked a few more ponies
Going to the local OPC towards the end of this month to see the launch cars, I can't wait, it looks fantastic.
I'm a big Boxster fan, but my budget doesn't stretch to a new one, so get buying folks, I'd like a 2.7 manual with very few options in a nice colour please.
Interesting the split in PDK/Manual, although not surprising. It would have to be manual for me, though I do get the PDK as a sensible choice.

Hey Jonathan,It's David/Rannoch - remember I took you for a passenger ride in my StI V at Bedford and we got black flagged for noise because they thought I was Craig Hardman (who is also on here with a 911)
Good to see you in sensible metal!

oh i forgot power
spyder 320 hp/370nm torque
981s 315hp/360nm torque
weight
spyder 1275kg
981s 1320kg
usually new porsches have more power than the out going model?( ie 987gen1 295hp rs60 303hp gen2 310hp???????)
so why didnt the 981s have at least 325hp?
With 325hp could it close the gap with base 991?spyder 320 hp/370nm torque

Stats aside isn't the 981 much faster than 987 around the Nurburgsing?
