Just wondered if anyone else saw that in 911 porscheworld magazine there was an official porsche advert saying the new service costs for the 986 and 996 model cars. I think its about £395 for a major but cant remember the cost for a minor. I already have mine booked in for Monday so im hoping they will honour these prices as they gave me a quote of £500 for a major.

I phoned Porsche Nottingham on Friday just out of curiosity for a price for a Major on the Mrs's 986 as I'd already phoned the local indy and just wanted a comparison.
Indy-£540 Dealer-£395
On the face of it it seems a no brainer, the service chap at Porsche said it was a new inititive designed to pull trade from the indys and at those prices it should work, and all the usual 'Porsche dealer' extras appeared to be included such as collection, valet, deliver car back etc.....
My only fear is the bill escalating beyond all sense on 'extras' especially on a 2000 car that has been out the 'network' for a couple of years.
But I guess they can't just crack on with extra work without authorisation or donI file the offer under 'to good to be true'? scratchchin

If (When) they find extra work, you could just pull it out and send it to an indy?

Then again, thats a ball ache. Send it to a good indy in the first place!

Had aircon service as well which was ~£130. To be fair they did offer that to me when I took the car in and I thought it sounded worthwhile. *shrug*

Extras were wiper blades, touch up paint stick, MOT, leaves cleared from radiator, etc.

Fingers crossed these prices will stick about, I've got my minor annual service coming up in August. They already offer lower man-hour rates on the older cars so the combination of the 2 should equate to reasonable cost motoring.

My major service last year (inc brake fluid/fan belt) was £700 at OPC Cardiff!

Had a discussion with my local OPC about this yesterday. Yes it is discounted labour rate of around £65 PH. Yes I can take my own oil in (don't want Mobil 1 & want a higher viscosity) & yes on extras I'll get my discount on parts biggrin seems like a win for me & my Boxster!

BMW are doing something similar for older cars, I'm currently debating whether to take my snotter 20 miles to my indi. who has recently started sharing space with a Ferrari fettler lick
Or take it two minutes up the road to the main dealer for the same price....

Exactly, the low fixed priced service figure gets you through the door then they look to see what they can get out of you. I have never EVER paid the fixed fee,its always over. There is always something else needing done.

But I presume you don't actually have to have done what they suggest?
I know our car could do with new discs, they were an 'advise' on the MOT, I'm not paying 'OPC' prices for them I'll do them myself when I get round to it, I know the air con doesn't work and the Mrs doesn't want it fixing. rotate
So the current plan is to get the OPC to do a 'Major' but I'll put a few 'don't bother telling me what I already know and don't care about' rules to the transaction. wink

And as for 'suppling own oil' thats got me thinking how to make the poverty pork even more affordable......so whats the liquid gold of choice for a high mile 2.7 986?

It's still pricey if you realise what gets done. But probably a good deal for stamp fetishists wink

Thats my main driver for going there. paperbag
117,000 miles worth of previous stamps, would be a shame to neglect it now. rotate
Changing the oil/filters looks easier enough, especially if it's up on a lift but it's all about the inky smudged stamps.... wink
