my 1968 2.0S went to singapore as well.. and i believe they have to pay a hefty import tax on top of the purchase price...if so the actual cost of the car was much higher

probably declared the value in line with the market for higher mileage cars. I'm sure the Singapore customs wont be that switched on.

You are right, a very hefty tax, but if the purchaser of the 964RS is from Singapore he won't be bringing it here (Singapore) for another ten yrs! You can only import cars under three yrs old, or over thirty yrs old under a classic car scheme.

I think I would rather have a somewhat average mileage example and be able to drive it every day without worrying about stone chips etc., as long as the car has a history, is original and has been cared for...

A little while ago there was this F40 with less than 1000 miles for sale. Good luck with the reliability of a car that has stood still for the last 20+ years and good luck with driving it without feeling bad.

You don't have to scrap, there is an option to renew the entitlement to keep the car for another 10yrs. At the moment this cost around GBP45k! Motoring Singapore style is not cheap!
