What sort of price differential is there between Lightweight and Touring models?
This would interest me too! Due to the rarity of the Touring, it should be worth more. 76 were built, making them extremely rare. However, the specification is not as exotic as the "basic/lightweight" and it weighs 100 kilos more because of that.
2.7 Tourings are not quite as pricy as Lightweights, if that is anything to go by. So maybe a 964 Touring is also worth less.

The market is all over the place ,right now. In Germany, there are RS Americas being offered for €50-60K, and although there are fewer of them, they really do have very little RS content!

Touring for sale here http://www.gtclassics.co.uk/carsales.htm
Rare so they generally fetch a premium, a fair bit heavier than a basic RS which puts it somewhere between the basic RS and a C2.

Thats a given BUT, midnight doesn't sit well on a 964RS in my view. I know its a bit silly bit I just dont LIKE it.

And 'LIKE' is important.

Could be wrong but I recon the car that was discussed at the beginning of this thread has turned up again...I went to see that car with Bridey0 when it was at a caravan park and distinctly remember all the stuff about Bilstein and Walter etc...
Looks nice just hope that the matching no's engine or original block has somehow been found and dropped in...a mate of mine just phoned and they want WELL in excess of £100k...

The car was a kind of a test bed for Bilstein and set up brilliantly no doubt. Looks a nice job on the Resto as Berty says hopefully they found the original motor.

yes Lotus that is defo it..I remember the wheels were black when I saw it 18 months or so back. I really hope all is correct and details are all matching...be sad if someone else ploughed into an RS at that price without knowing the full story..thats the second time that has happened in the last few months....hope I'm wrong this time!!!

Pictures show matching numbers? So should be OK now?

Mega bucks though £140k? Is that what they go for nowadays? Seems outrageously high to me!

Sorry mate where are the matching no's? there are 2 samples of the VIN but the engine block number I cant see (maybe I'm looking incorrectly) .When I saw it, the block in it at the time was not of an RS but of a std C2 as was verified by Porsche AG.
This was only 18 months ago and RS' were still strong then..I am probably very pessimistic but I never quite got over what it was doing at a moody old caravan dealership up for £50k when good RS were already £70k plus..who knows maybe the original matching number engine block has been found and if so fair play...but I recon guys that pay those prices want and should want everything in order just hope who buys it checks....

Amazing. The report on this car when it was auctioned said the engine number had been removed, the gearbox was from a C2 not an RS and it didn't have the mag wheels....amongst other things.

yeah I seem to remember it turning up at auction not long after I saw it and I heard it went for £53k ish?...I genuinely hope we are all mistaken. It is obvious it's the same car but if everything has been put right and its all in order then great..otherwise I find this rather shocking and 'wool over the eyes' springs to mind. Glad for forums like this though just hope that everyone reads this who is thinking of seeing it.

There is a gt3 avoidance thread already running which is proving useful it would seem . why not a 964 one.....

You won't be able to see the engine number from those pics. If anyone goes to look at it you'll find it on the casing just to the right of and behind the fan housing at about 4 o'clock. A torch and some de-greaser is often required! If this RS was originally said to have a none matching engine, there's nothing in this new ad to say that it now has. confused

Peter Morgan mentions an RS like this in his section in this/last months GT mag. Must be this car.

He said 2 out of the 3 he inspected weren't what they seemed. It's a minefield out there.
I like the thrill of the search as much as the next guy, but I doubt even I could be bothered with the hassle of finding a good '64RS.

It doesn't even have original cup 1 wheels (mags or otherwise). Those are reps.

I guess that the bottom line is that it is now so much cheaper to build a Carrera up to RS spec that that is what most people who want one are going to do. Clearly that will result in a lot of them being out there.
