Suddenly remembered last year September I think Silverstone GP , POrsche Open , I drove a mint 993 RSR on 5 year old slicks and it started to rain at the start of the race ............ spent 40 mins sliding around the place .....in a very expensive car .... great fun , keeps you alive.

Peter,
I would like nothing more than to track the car hard, I have a mint original paint/panel RSL which I have tracked for seven years and which I have now stopped tracking as I was getting closer to the ragged edge.

My plan was to buy a usable N/GT for sensible money to track, I should have bought the first one I saw two years ago at sub £100k- but I didn't.

Fast forward to now, I bought the car intending to track but @ these low km values are rising strongly, I am an ordinary chap and can't afford to lose £££ by binning the car - the excess on this car on track is now pushing £20k and that's without taking into account the inevitable drop in value should I be unlucky enough to have an incident.

So, need to give it some thought I think......I dont have garage space for three cars so one may have to go.

Something to ruminate over on the way to Spa this weekend :-)

Best regards,
Kevin
PS very envious - never driven an RSR but would love to!

No Just joking .......... I do not think in the line of excess as we race even through the night in the rain and never bother with insurance ... even in the RSRs
We enjoy driving Porsches .

Appreciate the POV, I enjoy driving them too, I have had many people tell me I was mad to track the yellow one over the past few years - if I had deep enough pockets and/or was in the trade so that rectification were not an issue I would be right there with you :-)

Yes interesting time at the Classic , was hit onto the grass by a Ferrari F40 LM at Maggots in 5 th gear...... so about 120 mph across the grass spinning with a coporate guest in the car .......... fun times , fortunately came out of brakes and stopped spin a few yards from the barrier and avoided to much damage ....
Unbelievable on a so called "demonstration " session.....
No Insurance ... just intuition and luck I guess ...

@hunter 66 I surprised to hear that, I thought those demo runs were going to be a glorified test session. I say this, thinking that if the series gets off the ground, I could run my N/GT around at the back. Less keen if people are treating the cars pretty hard. I'm happy to race the car, but not like its a modern sprint race, swapping paint. Keen to hear if its put you off, and whether you think the series is going to be all top line fast GT cars, or if there may be room for the club orientated GT cars.

@kevin, take your time, you track your car very sensibly. You've got 2 superb cars - dont sell either of them. Its all about calculated risk, I'm in same position, can't push the car too hard, but can have plenty of fun. If you want to drive on the limit, consider getting something proper cheap to run in between and get experience. As you know I've got a little caterham and Clio cup (both less than 10k), you can push them hard, the key thing is they are light, so when you lose it they dont travel so far. I still find the N/GT a heavy car to drive, and once you leave the black stuff, it just keeps going!!!

The new car is a beautiful thing - hang on to it. I'd take the FEs and belts out, and store them, as they are very original and not so useful. but keep running as you are.
