lol, correct it is not original. Saying that any RS with a rebuilt motor or repaint is not 'origin' either.
As for checking the matching numbers I would ask how the check was done 'cos it isn't listed anywhere in the paperwork or build sticker.
the chassis number and engine number were checked with a contact at porsche who confirmed the chassis is RS but not the engine. was a contact well know in the 964 RS community from pcgb. i know who i trust on this oneAs for checking the matching numbers I would ask how the check was done 'cos it isn't listed anywhere in the paperwork or build sticker.
I have called OPC in the past to check a 964RS VIN(not this one) - and with the VIN they also confirmed engine serial number and the options it was ordered with...so it is possible to check whether or not it is the original engine.
They should also be able to issue a "certificate" if they see the car.

there we have it then. so, with a non RS matching numbers engine whats the price? They should also be able to issue a "certificate" if they see the car.
Out of curiosity, what is involved / the cost of taking an engine and blueprinting it and release those extra 10 horses?
If you had biught the last production 964RS whose engine went pop after two years, and Porsche gave you a replacement engine would they have grabbed a blueprinted engine off the shelf or created one?

There is no difference between the C2 and RS engines. Different clutch & flywheel, single belt on the RS but the engine is the same. Porsche used the best tolerance parts to build the RS but the power difference comes from the ECU not the engine.
If indeed the engine has been changed and the engine code started 62K or 62L then I would think this would influence the price but if it was a new or rebuilt motor with a later engine code I don't think it would affect the price much at all. So long the engine is sound there are more important things to worry about..

FRom what i was told its defnately not a rebuilt engine. rest of the car looks great and ive seen it in the flesh. sadly i didnt get a drive in it. It was originally for sale on Autotrader at a place called 'Moonz Motorhomes' in Essex which you'd think is an odd place to sell a 964 RS

Yeah, that's what Porsche said so they didn't have to get another engine approved. An RS engine definitely has some sort of voodoo going on.If indeed the engine has been changed and the engine code started 62K or 62L then I would think this would influence the price but if it was a new or rebuilt motor with a later engine code I don't think it would affect the price much at all. The only way you could build a 'blueprint' RS engine is if Porsche would let you have the blueprints they built them from, which I reckon they won't, though I've never actually asked.

So I agree with you. I don't see what the issue is with this car, yes it should be cheaper than a matching number car but there must be a few cars with replacement engines so if the RS ECU clutch and flywheel are there it is an RS in every partIf indeed the engine has been changed and the engine code started 62K or 62L then I would think this would influence the price but if it was a new or rebuilt motor with a later engine code I don't think it would affect the price much at all. Cheaper being roughly half the price of a matching numbers car is the consensus RS in every part
Thirty grand tops. But there are non matching number 2.7s out there still worth big bucks, so in the future, who knows? But for anyone looking to invest in an RS right now, it needs to be matching numbers. The power of PH....as a result of this thread, a buyer will know exactly what he is letting himself in for...

Looks like we got 2 guesses at the 30k tops Mark. How many do we need exactly for a concensus ??? :-) Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
