guys do you use your gt3 on the road and track ? is it also your main car ? to and from work etc. or do you specifically use the gt3 purely for track days and weekend trips etc. i am toying with the idea of trading my spyder in for an rs 997.1 or 997.2 gt3

..theres the thing you can use them for both... a bit stiff for a daily driver, but you can do it...!

If you can live with your spyder as a everyday car the GT3 poses no problem what so ever. Comfort spec would help as full harness and roll-cage with bucket sets makes jumping in and out a bit tricky. Also a front lift might be useful but not essential.

I traded my Spyder for a 997.2 GT3 and I have never looked back.
The car is used only for 'fun' - I am lucky to have a commuter car and a family car as well; the GT3 is my 'sports car' and used almost exclusively at weekends or for the occasional commute if I'm in the mood. It does do 'driving holidays' and trips to Le Mans as well. It spends pretty much all winter laid-up avoiding salt and potholed roads...
Some might look on this as a waste, I think it just makes the occasions I do use it all the more special.
I haven't used it on track, as I race, and so tend to use the race car for trackdays and testing - but I would have no qualms about doing so, and I am sure it would relish the opportunity to stretch its legs more often.
I couldn't imagine using it everyday - it is capable of being used in such a manner, but part of the appeal to me is the fact it is a 'special' car. I can't imagine being without it – I love this car!

I can't imagine being without it – I love this car! This... Pretty much sums up my use too, BUT I do track it 6mths of the year. My GT3 997.2 is only used in Winter when roads are dry and never during or after salting...I even wait for there to be some good rainfall after winter to "wash" salt off road. I would find it perfectly compliant as a daily driver and front lift works well and I've commuted in London previously in manual 911s so it's perfectly doable, but I prefer riding my motorbike as I get more done (v fast commute) and enjoy the commute much more. It's my special car for weekends, high-days and holidays. Go for it! The 997.2 is so versatile with front lift. PF

I've been running GT3s for over 6 years now (996.2 and 997.2) for pretty much everything except getting to work (train for that). Not huge fun in traffic, but if you are actually moving it is a fine way to travel...

My 7.1RS is used as daily in London. A part from heavier clutch and speed bumps it's all good. I ran it for 17kmiles: snowy Alps, trackdays, commuting and wkend surfing hoons (I have a roofrack for it) Perfect in all terrain Now for sale but to go even more "hardcore".

I live in an urban area and driving an RS around the rutted urban landscape is about as relaxing as unleashing a Doberman in a cat shop. Non petrol head passengers think its strange and a bit intimidating. I use them for track days,Porsche meets and some road rallies. I would not classify them as DDs

Use my 7.2 GT3 ("comfort" with folding buckets) as a daily drive and do not feel any relevant compromises versus a stock C2S, but the fun factor is just worlds beyond. You'd be silly not to...

I think you would miss the Spyder. I run both a GT3 and a Spyder and as long as it,s not raining the Spyder to me is more fun. The GT3 needs the right roads where the Spyder loves all roads inc bumpy ones. And when the suns out the Spyder wins no contest, downside in the UK is we have not had any sun for ages.

The O/P is talking 997's. It is generally accepted I think, that the 997 has better road manners than a 996?

Hi
Concur with most of the posters here - Cayenne Diesel daily - 997.1 CS for my "Special" occasions - of course you can use it daily as has been said but if it was then front splitter (Gone through 3 in 2 years and I've only put 900 miles on it in that time and I'm V V CAREFULL!) and the Heavy clutch would soon annoy you so much in commuter traffic you'd probably want your Spyder back!
Get one anyway - you only live once!!

Brno puts any track in the UK into the shadows. Epic, esp on a bike! Be very careful on "pay per session" public days though. There is often very little policing of driving standards

When I picked up my RS.2 at the factory I ran it in around Czech before heading for the Ring. I stayed in Prague for a few days and recall the cobbles well ...here is the car outside the Mandarin Oriental where I stayed....
