Well, I drove one from Glasgow to the Loch Fyne oyster bar and back on some fun roads. Approximately two hours' driving. I'd prefer a base Cayman. Just my impression.

I'd like to be the first to say I've not driven the new Cayman but the steering is rubbish.

Who told you that? My dealer said they anticipate a March 13 launch with order books opening January with letters of intent being taken now

I would guess the new Cayman is pretty close. If it's announced/launched this Autumn, then the production process will follow pretty quickly - configurator, order taking, dealer presentation, on the road by March.

I think it's the GT2/GT3/Turbos that tend to have a longer gestation period between official annoucement and eventual production.

This is what we've been waiting for:

ATLANTA, Nov. 9, 2012 -- /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche is continuing its sustained success in the U.S. with a world premiere and a North American premiere planned for the upcoming 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The world premiere of a compact sports car at the Los Angeles Auto Show will add impetus to this trend. Porsche will reveal the new vehicle to international media at 12:05 pm on Nov. 28 during a press conference at the Porsche show stand.

Wonder when OPC's will get to hear about the UK launch?

What's the point in a Letter of Intent if the UK launch is not until March 13, surely you will still be the front of the queue if you wait until the specs are out (end Nov'ish) and order goes in in Jan?

Letters have been in for a few months already chaps, so find another OPC if you truly care about being 'first'.

i never buy new brands straight out the box , as they always get tweeked 6 months later to clear the early cars of faults, also they add better options like PSE and sports shocks later.

being 1st is just a mugs game nothing to shout about imo.

I bought my new Cayman in January this year and I will certainly be buying the new model but I would not wish to own one of the early produced ones.
Is it not so that all production is moving factories, best to wait until things settle down.
And rumours of a turbo would also make me wait and see what becomes available

As the new Cayman is essentially the 'coupe variant' Boxster, I would have thought they'd sorted out any issues whilst producing the Boxsters over the last 8 or so months??
