That's a good option. And "less can be more" with the 911.
Or pay £60,000 for a well-specced Cayman. It's going to be a great car. I had a gen 1 and loved it.
Or why not negotiate a big discount and get the C2S if that's what you really want. That's what I did this time round.
Choice is good. Why should anyone be upset?

I've had 2 Boxsters (currently a 2010 2.9 PDK) and am about to buy my 1st 911, a 991 Cab. With all the comments on here like "save £30k and get a Boxster or Cayman" etc; here's an interesting poser: if they were all the same price (991, Boxster and Cayman) which would you get?

Recent quote from my local OPC sales guy " the 991 is a bit of a slow burn at the moment" In my opinion due to financial climate and high price, and that new upcoming Cayman looks fantastic and with the right HP 350+ will take some beating.

But there's your problem. 350+ ain't coming any time soon. It'll handle just as well with 300hp. I never felt my Gen1 S lacked for power like the 991 non S does.

I had a 991 on loan for 2 days when my Boxster was in for service etc and I drove a 981 Boxster S last week and I don't think there was a lot between them. Both had PDK, were fairly well loaded and both handled very well.
If I was in the market for a new fun sports car for under £100k the first question I'd be asking would be is the 991 worth circa £30-40k more than the 981. If money is no object and you want the perceived status the 991 has then yes. If all you want is the best driving experience money can buy at this level the answer has to be no.
The 981 gives you 95% of what the 991 offers for substantially less outlay and I suspect the new Cayman will better that. I don't think this comes down to what people can afford it's more about value for money and in this respect the new Boxster wins hands down.

Can you get 2 people plus 2 sets of Golf clubs plus 2 weeks worth of luggage in a Cayman or Boxster? No, hence I would take a 991.

My previous 987S had far more luggage space (given it had 2 boots) than my current 997C4S… I could easily have fitted 2 sets of clubs and bags in that. However, being able to fit the kids in the back of a 911 is more useful to me on a daily basis hence the main reason this is now a daily driver

Before the Cayman was regarded by many, wrongly IMO, as the poor man's 911. With the new Cayman, looking the way it does and being even more 'driver' orientated than previously, I think it will actually gain status as possibly the 'thinking Man's 911'. This will leave the ' bloater', however accomplished, as Jag Man's alternative drive. this is pretty much the only market it has left, and even then it's too expensive at £95k. We can toss this back and forth infinitum, but the fact remains it's a very accomplished GT, that has priced itself out of the market. I believe it has lost it's position as a 'sports car' per se, and the Cayman is set to take the mantle.

Er, a Boxster. Sorry. I certainly wouldn't buy a 911 cabriolet, I don't really see the attraction.

Why would you want to stuff all that crap in your sports car? The 911 is evolving into a high end gt, with occasional sporty pretensions. For 100k though, you could pick up a German uber saloon and something truly sporty, Elise oo Caterham perhaps and still pocket some change.

And how is the new Cayman more focused than before? No one's even driven one yet. It was more of a sports car already when it came out A brand new 911 is the businessman's express and most businessmen are holding back on spending. It's the spirit of the times. People are looking for an austerity era downsized purchase and the 981 fits the bill perfectly.

It's the everyday sports car for those who don't want multiple cars. I use mine for work, holidays, the school run: pretty much every purpose every day. And it's still a great steer.

So that I can go on a two week touring holiday in Scotland, play golf, chill, enjoy some great roads. I reckon even with all that gear on board you could probably do about 160 leptons around the Isle of Skye if someone closed the roads.....

Which boot would you put the golf clubs in or would they fit behind the seats?

Not sure whether you receive correspondence from other PHers, if not perhaps you'd be kind enough to drop me a mail. I have a question for you.

Frankly, I don't believe you could do that unless the 991 is massively bigger than the 997? Either that or you dress very poorly.
