Its nearly always cheaper to buy the 'right car' in the first place. Money spent developing a Boxster is dead money in my view.

Sell up and buy the car you want.

MTR

the above maybe true for a 911 but porsche dont make a more powerful 987.2/981 units than the spyder/r
i have also always wondered about the various outputs of the 3.4 lump power outputs and how porsche gain the extra horses!but also if my car a spyder is a detuned 3.4 engine then that makes for a longer lasting engine
the 3.8 transplant is expensive and i have read not without its problems so it comes back how to get say 350hp from the 3.4?i am sure in time all will be revealved and what the various upgrades are ie cams/ecu etc which will be the best and most original porsche way to go on my spyder in a few years time

it's all tried and tested

race exhaust deleting all 4 cats
997 GT3 throttle body
remap to tie it all in and stop the cel light
and a vflow intake.

should be 345 to 350BHp and not that expensive.

get the weight out and a Spyder would be 278BHp/ton :-)
I thought this was for the M97 engine?

Have a look at this ...

Pretty impressive as it's a PDK car. No performance numbers but the dyno readings are impressive.

I think Parr would be willing to install.

I think I could live with a tiny bit of throttle lag for this kind of increase in outright performance. Just look at the area under the torque curve - thumbup

No :-). I did close the the same with my gen 1 Cayman but with 996gt3 parts.

Also the exhaust systems are much changed regarding cats etc.

Ah! I was thinking of a combo (from memory, GT3 T/B, Plenum, remap [Softronic?] de-snork and de-cat) for the M97 lump in Cayman/Boxster that was a complete 'package' and very popular. Is what you're describing a similar, complete and matched package of parts for the DFI motor?

Just about yes, but you seem to really need headers as well to get the same gains.

Very tempted to do my spyder, it,s already super light weight one, so 350bhp will see it outdraging gt3 to 90mph or so.
So hard to know what to do as I would want to go ti on the exhaust and that adds a few ££ but fancy trying to aim for 280bhp/ton.

But also want a set of Dunlop race max tyres and RSS control arms, it starts to all add up then.

I must admit to liking turbos - I do tend to laugh out loud when they come on boost - addictive! But then again I haven't owned a turbo car for years and back then, the power delivery really was on/off - hit the throttle, wait, BANG! Hilarious, but not in the least bit subtle or controllable!

That said, have you seen the video on TPC's site of their conversion on a PDK Spider? Whilst I know you can't eliminate lag totally, their product does seem to be pretty damned good in that respect. They alsso seem very pleased by the low lag they've achieved (but they would say that, of course)! The good thing about the TPC kit is it retains the standard compression ratio and fuelling system, so it doesn't lose much off-boost. As it's a low-pressure installation too, it also mitigates against a laggy feel. May not be as bad as you fear....

Yes it's a larger 82mm unit.
Didn't realise the Mezger and DFI throttle bodies were interchangeable, that's a handy bit of knowledge. Nice one, cheers smile

Just for the record, was just curious, I love the Spyder just the way it is :-)

But an interesting discussion.
