987 Boxster - LOI
Discussion
Visited local dealer to try an S but was persuaded that a plain vanilla Boxster is almost as good and not perhaps is not worth the extra dosh. Having tried it I tend to agree unless you drive that hard and need to extract every ounce of performance. I was impressed if a little short of mid range grunt.
When I asked about the 987 rather than get a current model I was told the new one would be a better bet cost wise if I can wait until January. They said more info by September. Hence I have given them a LOI.
Anyone got any opinions on S versus standard or more up to date info on what changes the 987 model will have and when it will be out? I have read the current Autocar article and think they are being overly optimistic in stating the coupe to be circa 30k and cheaper than the roadster. Also I can't see Coupe coming out until late 2005.

I checked with the dealer and they said could supply Jan or Feb next year based on my psotion int he queue and specing up in Nov when they expect it to be launched in UK. Of course price and spec is another story and I expect it will be usual thing of 5k ontop to get a reasonable spec especially with the PDC.

I have ordered one for March delivery next year subject to final spec to be firmed up soon. Only issue I am worried about is first year depreciation as someone told me he had lost 12k over 15 months (bought for 38k now being offered 26k trade in).
Any comments by other contented new buyers or are we really mugs?

987 depreciation will be very slow
That guy probably did over spec his car
Only if you get an early car and move it on before supply really meets demand...
I'm afraid they haven't done enough with the 987 to persuade me to move on from my 986.
I'm more likely to go down the used 996 route...perhaps a Turbo in due course...
