The best is an early car, like the one below owned by a familly member. Guards, black sports leather (not ponsey electric seats), momo period wheel, 4 speed, all original. Family owned (since 1980) 2 owner car that has had a full body and mechanical refresh. Now that is worth a fortune if it were for sale. Nice, very nice. Shame they drive like s t! Seriously I really do not like the way 930s drive so best make sure you do before leaping in. great in a straight line, great to look at. Mega bucks to keep sweet drink fuel like you've never known due to the primitive fueling system. Would i have another? Of cause i would!! Not my favourite of the 911's i've owned though........

Not my favourite of the 911's i've owned though........ If fuel and not tyre consumption is your concern, then you've indeed only driven the car in straight lines.

Fair point, tyre consumption wasn't on the radar though, didn't keep it long enough............ Fancied something with proper power, for that sort of driving.

Seriously I really do not like the way 930s drive so best make sure you do before leaping in. Turbos are hard work, but if set up nicely, and in good working order, they can handle well. I have done a bit of track work in the car shown and it is still respectable in terms of performance. Ok, its not going to stay with a GTR, like my GT2 quite possibly, but you have to drive it. Granted I am an experienced racer / development driver, but dont listen to the b ks spoken about Turbos being useless on anything other than an Autobahn, its simply not true. And they are now VERY cool, unlike most supercars of today or yesteryear.. To the OP, my message would be to get one, but it has to be broadly original bar exhaust turbo etc that can all be returned to standard. With a K27 they are grunty as hell, a very straightforward conversion. Avoid cars with larger than 16 inch Fuchs rims, non-factory flatnose conversions, and cars that are cobbled together like the first one. Good luck in finding one, it could be the start of a love affair that could last a very long time. Jon. Spot on Jon. Mine sounded sweet with the Cargraphic Stainless system, but fecked off the neighbours. Small price for having the hairs on your neck stand up! Is the one in the picture your dads beast?

Take time to learn how to drive one and at the end of every journey you will feel you have been a part of it and not just a passenger, they are hard work but worth it, I love mine.

I tried one, and when accelerating from 3k rpm, I couldn't stop laughing frenetically while the speedometer's needle moved simultaneously with the rev counter's

Agreed they are great cars. My old 964 3.6 turbo was just more of the same. I always felt as a good mate who owns an indie and was running one at the same time agreed. That after a good drive out particularly in the wet you had a real sense of achievement when arriving home in one piece. Immensely rewarding and I loved the challenge. A 996 GT2 must be a very similar prospect but I guess the mph numbers are far greater.

Graeme you suffer the same as me, its terrible i've had councilling etc, yeah they get under your skin!! 911god No i'm no dealer, i've just wanted to try as many as possible. Main issue now is after a 996 GT2 all alternatives will appear lame and maybe lethargic. That said the old AC stuff is fun at 30mph so thats where i'll end up again i reckon......... Just wondering what to go for??

You've had some serious metal though Crimp I'd keep the GT2 its the only water cooled as raw as an old one but yeah there are bit on the quick side and certainly will raise in value. Great write up this month in 911 & Porsche world.

Its just he has been very very very unlucky. He has suffered sods law and some!!!! He put faith in Ninemeister and Colin, thats where he was let down. The man is using his customers cars as rolling R&D vehicles and letting the customers pay for it when his test mules go tits up Going by testimonials by James and him and failing to find even ONE content turbo customer, Ninemeister is probably the last place on earth I would take a turbo porsche.. With the original 930 lump I had a lot of bad advice and a bad mechanic, yes lots of money wasted and heartache along the way..... If its a genuine 930 lump, with exhaust, turbo, intercooler, cams and someone proper to set the fuel up like Stuart Patterson, then you can have 400bhp easily, 450bhp at a push, and any more you really need EFI and much more work..... When my 930 engine gave up, I bought a 993 turbo engine, these come with a 450bhp option from Porsche with the X50 package, so plenty capable.... The one I bought coincidentally had been owned by a fellow pistonheader, and he'd been down the same road as me, dodgy work by dodgy shops and the engine had been stressed...... I found it needed new valve guides among other stuff, but stupidly never changed the valves...... A valve snapped and it needed a total and complete rebuild. The package on my car now is designed like stock, and tunes by RS Tuing, who are the world leaders in 993 turbo engine development..... The 520PS (518HP) package is capable of 50k miles of Autobhan driving, so it's bullet proof. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, if I knew what I know now, I'd have the original 930 engine running happy at 450bhp, or I'd have bought the engine I now have but totally rebuilt it before tuning it. I've had bad luck, bad advice and bad 'specialists' along the way, but there are good guys out there. As far as the car the OP posted, I can't see an issue with it, if it's cosmetically perfect, and the engine is good, then send it up to Stuart Patterson and let him tune that mechanical CIS system to perfection. If you want more power and EFI then get it to Richard Chamberlain and the sky is the limit..... Happy to give advice if you want to PM me, owning my 930 since 1999 and making just about all the mistakes a guy can make, I've learnt a few lessons....... Luckily mine is now perfect, would benefit from a nice lightweight interior, and maybe stiffer rear springs (mine is all coil over), but mechanically it's perfect.....

I was very lucky with my 930 ownership as I got a minter (albeit targa) at a great price. The problem was I really hated it!! The floppiness from the targa annoyed me and I just found it really unrewarding to drive. Not me at all. So as I got it at a very good price I moved it on very easily. That's that itch scratched! So OP definitely get some seat time in one before you buy. Bert
