At last I've bought a 993 however...

Some good points there thanks.
I just contacted the seller who said that the car never had any these issues in the 8 years he owned it.
Yes these cars are AWESOME! I just love the way they feel..and the smell ..and the looks. Bags of character, and that air cooled flat six is supoib.
I loved my old Targa. I loved the 987S but this is a different animal. This is the one!

Ah .... yes I feel the same way. Owned mine since March, travelled to Stuttgart in her via Reims in April ..... 1800 miles, then took the wife in a North - South - North trip of Spain another 1800 miles. I've now done 5K in just 4 months.I just contacted the seller who said that the car never had any these issues in the 8 years he owned it.

In the previous 3 years under the previous owner, she had covered just over 300 miles.
Shes costing me a fortune though, because I want her running tiptop, |I'm looking at de-cats now and loud pipes...... Just don't tell the wife.
I had a very similar problem to to this. I changes the DME and no joy. I was pointed to the immobiliser and noted a lot of corroding wires under the passenger car part on the immobiliser system. I took it to OPD and they disconnected the immobiliser and problem sorted. May be of help.
A 993 breaking down? Unheard of around these parts, it must be you.
Seriously, change the DME relay as others have said, it may not be your issue, but its worth doing anyway. And put a new BOSCH battery on it too, Euro Car Parts is usually the best place.
If it continues, go to another indy.
And get some bloody pics up!!!

I had this too , car would occasionally stall and refuse to start for a few minutes. Swapping the DME would appear to resolve it untill it happened more often. Took it to the dealer who suggested it might be the immobilisor, upon which they found some faulty soldered joints - which they repaired without replacing the unit. I don't know why this would cause the stall though, but 5 years later no problems since :-)Easy to check yourself, it will be under the passenger seat.
And don't be disheartened, 993's are great and I wouldn't swap it for a newer car.
.....Solar...congrats on your "new" car...the 993 is an awesome beast.
When I first got mine I had problems with a defunct tracker and one after market alarm system which caused my battery to give up the ghost after a a couple of days......had it all stripped out and a new alarm fitted been fine since. But have to say your problems do sound DMEish.....where do live?
Also I don't know if you post here.... http://www.911uk.com/viewforum.php?f=9 but for me it's the definitive 993 forum.....good luck...and happy motoring.......

Hi all. A couple of photos as promised. I will post more once I've taken them.
You know this thread is the first time I've ever posted on any forum and I've got to say that I'm genuinely touched by the kind hearted people who've given thought to my situation and very kindly offered some advice. Many thanks to you all!! I'm now more knowledgeable on the subject and I hope to be able to offer some advice to others based on my ( limited compared to some of you guys ) Porsche experience.
My car is at the Indys and I'm hopeful that I'll have it back very soon as I'm already feeling withdrawal symptoms!!I'll update once I know what's what.
Wozy and Stutgart - cracking pics! I think the 993 is extremely photogenic and just looks right from any angle.
I hope you get it sorted mate, some good advice on here. Could well ne sender related as well.
What concerns me is yor indy has changed a shed load of parts which perhaps never needed changing. Rotors, caps, starters arent cheap nor is the labour. Are they going to reverse some of the work or offer you any discount for being unable to actually fix what was wrong ? I would be going in there armed to the teeth with all the right trading standards small print etc... Rotors and caps take many many miles before they need changing, same with starters.

Thanks Jackal I'll keep that in mind when I speak to the Indy as it was a rather large bill for work that didn't resolve the issue at all.
I used your excellent buying guide when looking at 993s for sale. Thanks for that. The level of detail and quality of work that's went into your fantastic 993 is truly awesome. I've never seen anything quite like it.

So far I've changed so many things after pouring over his site. Suspension is next.
