Sorry - I didn't mean, why does it take so long to get the part. I meant : Why are they not providing a courtesy car.

Oh crossed wires wink

I guess they are under no obligation due to age of recall/car and they didnt supply the car ( I assume ) I dont know if it is a UK car either - or as you say they could be all booked

ETA But it is worth another try OP as it is a safety recall ......?

As a point of interest - about 2 years ago, I discovered my 964 had missed a recall (it was a 1989 car, so even more out of date than the 993). I was given a courtesy car. As it turned out, my car went in on a Thursday and I was supposed to collect it on the Friday - but the mechanic called in sick on the Friday. So I ended up with the courtesy car all weekend, which happened to be a weekend I was driving to Newcastle. So I made pretty good use of their Boxster!

I'd definitely be pushing the OPC for a courtesy car.

Right now we are on the subject about recalls.......

In my 993 service book they have stamped it twice for recalls it has had done previously.

Any idea what they are?

One is W301 Recall dated 24/02/03 the other just has the numbers 921 112 dated 19/9/95

Another thing that no-one's mentioned is the HT leads often need replacing on 993's and even if spotted often don't get done due to the cost. I had mine done, but it is a circa £5-600 job (simpler on a pre-varioram car).

Shame i didn't see this thread earlier. I would definitely think that the long drive was the last straw for the old loom. Mine went exactly the same way, and my sparky was surprised it hadn't caught fire as the main wires to the back or the alternator were arcing! And causing all sorts of electrical gremlins.

Push for a courtesy car though!!

Porsche are saying that their courtesy cars are all fully booked for the next few weeks.

It crossed my mind that the wires may have caused a fire.

I took quite a few risks with that journey home but I had the car I'd always wanted and my homing instincts must have taken over. I actually got lost about 10 mins after leaving the seller which was quite stressful. Once I found a main road then a motorway, it turned into a bit of an endurance test to get home. It was a 1000 mile round trip along roads I'd never been near before and half the journey was during the night.

Still, it was all done in a beautiful 993 and the car was completely faultless all the way home.

Had the wire loom recall done on my C4 recently at OPC Leicester and they sorted out a starting problem I had which turned out to be a break in the wire from the fuel sender! This was after exhaustive tracing of all the wiring which included removing the seats!

Anyway they charged a reasonable hourly rate and the guys enjoy working on the older cars!

OP - congrats on your purchase and hope you get sorted soon so that you can enjoy it when the weather breaks! biggrin

I had the wiring loom recall done about 18 months ago at OPC Bolton. If I remember correctly, its a £600 or £800 job!

I managed to get a new 2.9 Box for the day, (I am not having a Merc!) which to be honest I found a bit dull. Great grip and balance though.

Well done Molly.

Think I need to be a bit more persistent with the OPC.

W301 is the wiring loom

Not sure what 921 112 is ...

ETA OOPS that is the US version of the recall but it applies to UK vehicles too and not just Turbos

It took me a little longer to realise where the dipstick was on a 996GT2 was (wasn't!!).

A courtesy is not happening but 'if sir is seriously considering the new 911 or Boxster Spyder then come in and have a chat...'

To be honest, I think that's shocking. Regardless of how old the car is, regardless of whether you are the original owner or not - they are working on your car because it has been deeemed UNSAFE. From a (supposedly) high end car company, it is not unreasonable that they provide a courtesy car during this period. And it's this kind of attitude that might make sir less likely to part with £100k for a new one in the future.

Agreed.

I suspect if they really wanted to they could come up with vehicle from another branch.

When I visited Porsche Swindon recently with my 996 for the free inspection they made a big deal about lending me a vehicle if I choose to go there for a service. I would be a new customer so maybe this was part of the sale.
