Guys, I am not a mechanic but is it possible that a faulty gearbox which has been awkward to select gears in for some time (OPC aware)next step was to replace gearbox, lead to a shortened clutch life? Test driven other 996tt's and gear changes felt very different. The gearbox issue was notified to the OPC within a week of taking ownership of the car, the had taken brief look and changed some fluids and tightened cables to no effect. OPC did have replacement booked under warranty (week b4 warranty end) and their drivers did not turn up to collect the car, claiming traffic problems. Opinions?

If the problem was identified before the warranty ended have they replaced/repaired the gearbox now?

Seems unlikely to me - if the clutch was working properly and disengaging entirely then the friction plate shouldn't have been damaged by difficulty engaging gear. Feasibly the release bearing could have suffered from prolonged periods of keeping the clutch disengaged while you tried to select the next gear, but having said that I don't know the 996 clutch design.

They should really sort this all out under warranty if they were made aware of it so soon after purchase.
