When I get to know women, I hide my Porsche too - to a degree where I rent a Focus when taking them somewhere to an outing in the countryside, unless they know me well enough. I wouldn't want to be identified with any bling stuff. Don't get me wrong - a Porsche is an excellent puller for a quick adventure; but everyone who wants to attract sincere ladies will refrain from using a magnet for tanning salon girls. Both these things are so sad. What's wrong with the world thinking you've done well for yourself?

I also don't own branded clothes. Is that a milieu thing perhaps?

Forget pullin' with Porsches, I pulled outside the Atalanta Ballroom Woking in 1962 in a grey Austin Cambridge and a bag of chips. She's still with me!! But she will be in 981 "S" within the next two weeks which speaks volumes of her forsight!!

I'am not rich by any means but I own a Porsche, I have worked for many years to be able to have my dream car and don't give a flying f**k what people think, it may be very selfish but my Porsche is only for me no one else will drive it, if Porsche made a one seater I'd have one.
I must say most of the comments I've had are about the car and not about me the ones that do are usually from people who have pissed all their money away and it's the green eyed monster within talking.

To quote, when he gets to know women he rents a focus to go out in lol.
FFS What's wrong with this? And why so harsh? I take the Porsche, for some reason everyone non petrolcated thinks the Esprit cost heaps more. Always got more attention in that, the Porsche seems to slip by unnoticed.

I don't know where you guys live, but where I live (Towcester, which is not exactly Chelsea) I don't think a Porsche is considered to be blatantly extravagant. I've also never experienced any negative vibes from other motorists, friends, colleagues, neighbours etc. Maybe it's all down to how people act around their cars. Some people really do come across as tossers in whatever they are driving. A flashy car just makes them seem even worse.

Very strange.
Lets be realistic here renting a Ford Focus to go on a date is odd lets say you go on a date in a rented Ford Focus the date goes extremely well then next time you show up in a Porcshe, your date MAY notice and she MAY even be impressed, she will probably ask who's Porcshe it is to which you will probably reply "it's mine I rented a Ford Focus because I wanted you to like me not my car" I would then put a strong bet on that she would be insulted by the fact that you thought she was the type of person that would just want someone for their car etc in the first place, she's going to think your weird and probably not want another date hence the reason you are on this merry go round!
Get over yourself

I wouldn't worry about it, it's not like you are driving a new 991. A tanning salon girl wouldn't know what a 930 turbo was and how much it's worth.
Besides you might even find a girl that likes classic Porsches !

I'm generally in agreement with the sentiment about not caring about what others think, but I do find it mildly annoying when my neighbours make comments to my missus (not me), that I must be going through a mid life crisis. I'm only 39 for Christs sake!!!

Having read my own post back, I now realise I am middle aged so maybe I am going through a crisis...
Anyway, I just like driving my Porsche, simple as that.

I was ranting about what the world and Porsche's own brand architecture has come to; giving an example of the museum and some anecdotes, bottomlining in me wanting to see a little less glamour, and a few more battered but successful race cars from Porsche marketing. Not a too abstract concept for a petrolhead forum. Some contributors felt challenged to highlight that they are not interested in what others think. One thought a Porsche is an issue in a council estate, another thinks that avoiding being judged by owning a Porsche means having no life; others object to the Focus. I can assure you - it's not always a Focus; sometimes the hire company doesn't have one, and then provides a Golf or an Astra, or even an upgrade to a Mondeo Then there is the pulling factor - worth a thread of its own. I've never bought a car for the pulling factor; but come to think of it, the Land Rover Series II fits my pattern of prey best, based on almost ten years of empirical studies. This might not work in the English countryside, where they are ubiquitous; but it certainly does in European urban areas. The hire car scam has yet to have it's cover blown (after two cases). Lady sees obvious hire car, and asks something like 'Don't you own a car?' - 'Yes, I do - it's in for a service' - which always ended of topic. In both cases the ladies were positive on the Cayman later. Lady A asked not to drive too fast, and then wanted a go herself (she was hesitant to rev it above 5k though). Lady B asked me why I was dawdling about - at 180km/h.

Get a 993 or something older and don't pamper or polish it - ever.
Uber cool.
You'll get the thumbs up from everyone - apart from the men who use hair products.
