I've just had an OPC fit the airbag deactivation kit to my 997 with a carbon centre console and the light unit that is placed on the centre console has been fitted over a square piece of, what looks like black electrical tape.

Apparently this is normal when the light switch is being fitted to a carbon centre console.

My old 4S with a leather centre console didn't have this and I think the tape looks naff.

Does anyone know if this tape is standard for the carbon (and I assume plastic) centre console?

I had the kit fitted to my 987 boxster, on the underside of the centre console there is a template marking that shows what part to cut away in order to fit the warning light unit (which clips in). Mine is arctic silver and came back with no tape, can't see why you would need the tape, unless perhaps the clear coat was damaged when removing the excess. Speak to the dealer, they should of told you about the need for tape if it's the usual process at the minimum.

Thank you Uncle Pezza.

Good to hear that a silver centre console didn't need any tape.

I too suspect that the console was damaged / cracked / scuffed when creating the aperture for the warning light.

I have booked the car in to the OPC to get it checked out.

I'll try and upload a pic.

So is this tape part of an OEM OPC retro fit for airbag deactivation with a carbon centre console?
