Did that Castello car ever sell ?
Hope this is of some interest, magazine is still available on back order if anyone wanted a hard copy, plus they have an iOS app that you can download it.
I've had the after market phone kit removed and the standard leather trim put back on the centre console, so it's all back to original inside the car.

It does. Does anyone know it?
Yes, I remember it had the Mk1 wheels on it not so long ago, but a lovely car nonetheless.
It would be interesting to see what it goes for.

What is interesting about these cars(as written in the article) is how they perform in the mid-range vs a turbo.

From about 40mph in 2nd and up to whatever the GT2 will leave most cars for dead. Even today, it will take something special to stay with a 2001 - 2004 996 GT2.

@£40-£50k they look imposing, mean and capable and as times passes they just get better looking. Porsche will never make anything like it again and I have heard rumblings that the VAG mgmt may not be too keen on future GT2 variants. It this turns out to be the case then the 993/996/997 GT2's values are going to rocket.

People talk a lot about the 996 Turbo being the supercar bargain. If you have another £10/20k then the 996 GT2 is even more of a supercar....and a "bargain"

I'm amused as to why a cat d would not interest you but a high miler would ?.
Such a cliche really - I have had an amazing time in mine knowing it was a cat d when I bought it but thoroughly checking it out properly and having all receipts from the previous build.
Give me low mileage anytime.

If the car is A1 then you have a perfect base to improve further ie/ suspension, performance etc etc

Mines up for sale now but obviously as a cat d you wouldn't be interested...

I'm seriously thinking about a 996 turbo, but I'd really like a GT2 as I prefer rear wheel drive, the only problem is that I would have to save for another year or towards a GT2, which also puts them into 997t pricing? Car would be a weekend/evening toy only, so not bothered about comfort too much etc.

Are the 40k cars really that bad, or can you pick up somthing usable for that money? Nothing with a cat c/d history would really interest me, but a high miler would not worry me too much?
Not trying to be cheeky , but why would someone choose a repaired car over a straight car even with high mileage ?
Surely if a high mileage car has been well taken care of it would outweigh the history of a CAT D ?

Edited to add: sorry just realised you are trying to sell a CAT D car

Interesting point.
I have heard the GT2 maybe a thing of the past too so normally no smoke without fire i guess??
Obviously as always in scenario's like this the values's will go mental that's as sure as "Death & Taxes!" great for the current owners bad for perspective collectors of rare super cars

I would buy a high mile GT2 ten fold over a low mile CAT D, not even worthy of debate in fact a well maintained leggy GT2 will probably drive far better than garage queen warmed up once a twice a year. At least it will have had all the usual problem bits attended too as it will have most likely been on the OPC warranty scheme all its life and driven like any other car, bottom line is they are designed to be driven not parked in a garage somewhere.

Actually its 10 posts(mostly on this thread) in 1 month lol and oh, I actually own a 996 GT2.

If you read another post(just up from this) the rumblings about the GT2's future is not just eminating from my keyboard either.

With R8's and Lambo's in VAG's portfolio I would not be suprised if the GT2's future is not assured.

Here is a good 996 GT2 read.

This is where i have read it.
Problem is the GT2 is quicker than the R8 and most Lambo's so IMO it will be a daft decision to eliminate a legend that is the GT2 from the portfolio.

I agree they would be mad to chop the GT2 concept(and I hope they dont)......only time will tell.

Last I heard was that a 997 GT2 MkII "facelift" would be out in early 2013 but the whole post 997 GT2 platform/concept is a very quiet one, vs say the 991 GT3 and Turbo.

And I also would normally not buy a cat d, however it all depends on why it's been a cat d and more importantly what's been done to rectify it. I saved well over £15k when buying and that was spent on suspension, turbo mods and Spa francorchamp nirvana several times.
My point was simple never dismiss something without full understanding and reasoning,
The car was checked thoroughly and full rebuild pictures and parts list available.

That for me is and was a lot more attractive than paying £15 k more than a high miler that will need major tlc a lot sooner.

Anyway each to their own - if we all agreed life would be boring smile

A beautiful example and no affiliations.
I would suggest a sound investment @ 49k price will only go North.

The same one as noted in the eBay link.

Interesting that the photos are taken outside of Parr; also, that it says no reserve on eBay and doesn't have a buy-it-now price.

Just had the longest journey in the 10 months that I have owned my GT2 yesterday.

Collected car from local specialist having just had interior restored back to original including: standard centre console (original had been sprayed metallic grey - ste), dash returned to standard (air con had been moved down - again ste), horrible double DIN touch screen JapCr@p header unit removed and replaced with new period Nakamichi CD40 (yes I know it's not OE but the CR22 is just too old hat), all dash vents replaced with OE black (had also been sprayed metallic grey - ste). Now looks standard and stunning!

So she now has: sorted suspension (Manthey KW V3 with road biased bump, rebound and proper geo and corner weighting with drivers weight accounted for), new 890nm clutch and dual mass FW, good rubber (235fr, 325r) + 578bhp and enough torque to rip up the tarmac.

Only an 80 mile round trip (to pick my son up from a football match) but covered sweeping A roads, some motorway (M62 Saddleworth) and a few quiet B roads. The journey home was at dusk just as the sun was going down and there was a distinct "Chill" in the air - the dense cool air felt like it had added another 50bhp to the beast - OMG what a drive!

These opportunities don't come along very often but it is worth keeping a car like this just to experience these moments - EPIC machine. Full bore in 2nd and through 3rd leaves a real impression of you!

I use:

Autograph (Burnley) for electrical and audio work as I have know them years and they know there stuff.

Phoenix Motorsport (Accrington) for suspension and set up. Olly has forgotten more about suspension set up than most so called specialists actually know! They look after a large portion of the Lotus Elise Cup cars, a few historic F1 cars, hill climb cars, track 930 turbos, GT3s and everything in between.

Loe Bank Motors (Edenfield) for servicing. What Chris Sanderson doesn’t know about Porsche cars could be written on a post it note. He used to look after my 3.2 Carrera and my 928s back in the day.

My car has also been extensively worked on by OPCs, Fearnsport, JZM and Regal Autosport.

Cheers
