I saw this on the M42 a couple if weeks ago. It didn't look too bad. The Porsche and Ferrari were both stickered up for the Cannonball Run.

In an attempt to get my rear bar level with my front bar, I was browsing the Thule catalog that turned up with my bars.

The kit that the Thule site says fits the 900 series cars is 753. However - the catalog shows that 751 is for the same fixed point fittings - but is about an inch and a quarter taller. So this may well be a solution.

I've spoken to the guy I bought my bars from - he will send me 2x751's for me to try on the rear. If I'm happy with them, I can then return two of my 753s. If they make no difference, I can return the 751s.

Unfortunately, I am about to be away for a week - so I've told him to delay sending them until I give him a call when I'm back. Hopefully, this will solve the uneven height problem - and still provide an option which is much cheaper than the Porsche branded ones.

I'll update in about 10 days.

I have this setup for my 993 but haven't used it yet. As mentioned above its best to use different part numbers for the front legs vs the back.

What you need...
2 x Thule 761 (120cm bars 2 pack)
2 x Thule 951 (standard feet for rain gutter equipped cars 4 pack)
2 x Thule 952 (8cm taller versions of 951s 4 pack, to compensate for falling roofline of 993)

The links below have more information.

I have to agree, having been to Le Mans for a weeks camping, you have to pack very carefully. Friends of ours used their 944 Cab for two adults and two kids plus all their camping gear a few years ago. This year, now their kids are older, they used their 996 turbo and because one of their kids is taller than their mother, she sat in the back. Not sure what my wife would have said if I suggested she sit it the back, but I bet it would have ended in "off".

The best way to get lots in the boot of a 911 is not using travel bags but plastic bags. Sounds naff but they take up no room and you fit heaps more in. I've done a 7 day road trip with the wife and 2 kids and we got on fine.

Another time I drove 4 hours with the wife and our (then) toddler, portacot, luggage and race helmet in the 911 Turbo. Got to Taupo, unpacked at the motel and then the next day did a full days racing, loaded the family all back in the 911 and off we headed.

Today, my new footpack fittings arrived so I swapped the rear fittings over. The result is better than I expected - the bars are now totally level.

So, the Thule website recommends that for a Porsche 900 series coupe you need :

Footpack 753 (kit of 4), Fitting kit 3100 and roof bars (I used aero bars). But in fact, what you actually need is :

2 x Footpack 753 (for the front) and 2 x Footpack 751 (for the rear), fitting kit 3100 and roof bars.

Obviously you need to find a supplier who can mix the footpack in this way. I highly recommend where I got mine :

http://www.roofracks-roofboxes.co.uk/

Price was excellent (I paid about £165 for the fittings and aero roof bars - so about 1/2 the cost of a Porsche kit) And proper customer service - because I ordered a cycle carrier at the same time, I was given all matching locks. Plus, I was sent these 751s free of charge to try - and can now send the 753s back. Very quick delivery too (my original order was about 5pm, and it still arrived next day).

To be clear the OP has a 964 and so will need the setup I posted due to not having the channel system the 996 series has instead having the rain gutters. Anyone with a 996 the above setup looks like a sweet option and highly useable for luggage, bikes, snowboard etc.

just an observation .. the rear aero bar looks to at an angle rather than flat with the horizontal ? If so , you might find problems mounting the bike rack as it is attached using the channel in the aero bars and a mounting bolt that should point vertically up ... not sure what kind of flexability these mounting feet have regarding their positionining ?

Yes, the rear bar does slope slightly - but the channel itself seems to be fairly flat and I had no problems with the cycle carrier (in fact, I had no problem even when the rear bar was 2" lower).

I think it's more obvious just because of the type of bars I have - ironically, if I fitted the rear bar the wrong way around I think it would actually look flat.

Does anyone know if any of these luggage sets will fit a 993? (front boot and rear seats)

The rear 4 case set is for a 996/997. So does anyone know if the 996 has bigger rear seats than a 993?

I am going on a driving holiday around Europe, so not really a solution for me. Can someone answer my question with regard to different seat sizes 996 vs 993?

I don't have exact measurements, but the 996 rear seats certainly look a bit bigger than 993.
