Steve Rance said: Actually, ceramics won't make any difference to the lap time. They are no quicker than steels. Maybe a very small advantage (a tenth or so) if the car was fitted with slicks.
Over 2 seconds is a huge difference if there was tyre parity. It will be interesting to establish what tyres were fitted to the 991 although porsche tend to fit the stickiest tyres to press cars for obvious reasons. PDK would be worth a few tenths but over all there would still be a 2 second gap which is a very long time on a circuit. On the road, it really doesn't matter.
With a driver of average ability, the difference will be less I suspect as the 991's performance at the higher end of the envelope will be more accessible than the GT3's. Some drivers will love that and some won't. I think that this aspect (in reality more than the electric steering issue) is what will divide opinion on the 991.
I think that on balance, more will love it than hate it. Agree with this completely, the 991 offers an awful lot for us average folk.

For such a short circuit, over 2 seconds is worlds apart...

For such a short circuit, over 2 seconds is worlds apart... other lap times ive seen for the 991S put it at a similar or fractionally quicker pace to a 996GT3 (assuming fast drivers in both). its a good 3 seconds slower than a 7.2 GT3 around most tracks with regular lap lengths. that being said, i suspect the level of sweat on the forehead after the lap in the 996 and the 991S are vastly different.

Not really fair on the 991 when we aint seen the new bird in her new GT3 party dress and bright makeup.

I'm sure they did. I've seen the lap times coming in for the 991S at a few tracks now with fast drivers at the wheel and know exactly what the various GT3s do at those tracks too with comparable drivers. It's giving times that are roughly stock 996 GT3 pace. It's meaningless anyways IMHO.
