Looking in your price range have you considered a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder? You can get low mileage examples (under 10k miles), they also as an added bonus seem to hold their value well smile

Both are brilliant , no wrong choice , but the 2 best daily sportscars out there... There are better weekend cars... 80k gives you choice of ferraris, gallardos , astOns and gt3s

Being an Audi is only a bad thing if you're a badge snob of if you choose a car based on image. Some people care more about the driving experience.
Re being a badge snob - many people bought the original TT for it's "image" and lets be honest the early cars did not exactly do well in the driving stakes - in fact they felt terrible to start with. Lets face it for circa £85K you can get a far better drivers car and have loads of change to spend on many trips to SPA and the RING!
Just for the record I don't recollect saying that Audi/badge was bad - they are far from it. I have driven several of the RS series tourers and saloons and they are very quick but quite uninspiring when driven hard. The R8 obviously is the best that they have. I have to be honest and state that I have never driven one, however a few weeks ago I did "follow" one on some great A & B roads for about 20 minutes. When the R8 pulled over we had a chat. He was very surprised and unimpressed that my 54 plate 996 C2S Anniversary could stay as close to him as it did. By the way so was I lol!
At the end of the day it's purely down to personal choice and that is how it should be.
Me - GT3 RS every time.

Joke right!!!!!
But just in case it's not - Porsche 996 Carrera 2 (two wheel drive) S.
Slightly more power (345 bhp) than the standard 320 bhp one!

In my experience the weakest link by far is always the driver so zero relevance.

996C2S ? Seriously ?

Well you will find many C2 cars for sale with the "S" tag.
Mine was a Carrera 2 with an S designation in the title and had 345bhp - so yes there was an "S" in the title, and as I said there are loads for sale with the "S" tag.
But whats in a name right - just look at the issues/confusion over what is or is not an early 2.7 RS etc. So there we have it what ever you want to call the car it had 345 bhp.

Now i know this is the Porsche forum and the advice maybe slightly biased but i wondered what peoples thoughts were on R8 v8 vs 991 c2s. I currently have a 60 plate 997 c2s which i use as a weekend car, which i have owned for approx 6 months but ive got that "itchy feet" feeling and feel its time to move on. Ive driven both the R8 and the 991 and whilst the 991 was the better car to drive , I love the way the R8 looks. As its my weekend car I just thought that taking the R8 out at the weekend might be just that little bit more special. The deals offerred on both are quite good. R8 lists 102k but can be bought for 83k and the 991 c2s lists at 95k but have been offerred it for 85k. Im awaiting the flaming fron the Porsche diehards !!
Manual or R-Chronic? If it's the latter forget it, it's utter rubbish. The PDK 991 will run cirlces round it whilst it's struggling to decide which gear it's going to clunk into next.

Is a big Audi REALLY going to feel that special at the weekend? Inside the R8 is so-so, yes the outside is alright, but hardly breathtaking.

If you want a "special" weekend car maybe neither of the contestants you mention is the way to go; maybe Lambo or Ferrari would be more special? But if it has to be a choice between the R8 and 991, a PDK 991 knocks the R8 into a cocked hat - regardless of how good the R8 may appear on paper.

Added to which, if you buy an Audi you will at some point have to visit an Audi main dealer, which is an experience as enjoyable as visiting an inner-city A&E department on Saturday night.

I have seen a lot with this in ads too. Is it a tip? They usually write tiptronic S which usually confuses matters! But yeah in theory it's not an S even if it has extra power. It's an x51 996c2. Anniversary are great cars!

Drove R tronic, a truly awful experience, but manual car was ok. A lambo or ferrari worries me re servicing cost/ repair bills. Any of those 2 would need to be older to get within budjet. I have to make the decision tomorrow if i want the R8 and I still dont have a clue what to do. My head says 991 , my heart R8!!

I am surprised your heart says R8, it is about the most anodyne sports car out there. Whereas the 991 has charisma.

Sounds shining, lets go out in the Audi

Or

Suns shining lets go out in the Porsche/lambo/Ferrari

I looked at an R8 3 years ago when comparing high end cars for a daily drive. Beautiful car outside but inside, it was an Audi. However, like all cars, it's down to what's right for you really. Good problem to have, whatever you pick, enjoy and good luck.

Is your car a tip? Because any 996 advertised as an S is because it is has a Tiptronic S gearbox, no such car as a 996 Carrera S or 996 Carrera Anniversary S, the only 996 with an S were the 4S or turbo S.

Its always a personal thing but the recent comparison tests between R8 and 991 have generally agreed that the Audi gets lots more attention from the general public and head to head , in manual form, the 7 year old Audi is better to drive.
Its less practical and it's width is an issue though
