991's getting 7 digit postal codes?

I understand new 991's are now being delivered with full UK postal code recognition Satnav and that it will be a cost option upgrade for current owners.

I wonder how they feel, having loyally bought one from the early batch, to now be asked to put their hands in their pockets so soon for this upgrade.

I don't think the cost has yet been announced, but a figure of £500 has been mentioned. Surely not!

This is why I never buy one within the first six months of production. At launch you couldnt get various other options on the 991 or 981. I think its a bit rough asking for an upgrade cost from original customers but I am sure you can negotiate that with the dealer.

The PCM debacle - specifically Porsche's lack of cost effective customer support - has been covered on here and elsewhere for many years.

I understand the charge, which involves a software update - downloaded by the OPC from a lap top, is actually nearer £600 with vat

On 981's there are no discounts in cash , just deals ie paid for factory collections or the free track day, they don't need to discount the 981 they can't make enough of them, that's why VW factory now assisting.

At £50k to £65k IMO there is no better open top sports car, got to spend £100k plus plus on a 991 to get a decent spec convertible and the rear seats are pointless.

Deprecation will always be there, I say buy a car you are comfortable with , run and use it, enjoy it And then gulp take the depreciation , at least you have enjoyed it. With a Ferrari you have deprecation, running costs, and lack of use!

Are you sure about that? I think they are there on new cars especially those that are built (but not demos). Maybe not on built to order but why would you need built to order there are plenty out there to find one in the exact spec you want u less you are going pts or the like.

I don't think you'd get a conspicuous discount on a new 991. But there will be a big drop on nearly new, from private or OPC. Of course things might change if the economy takes a downturn. Dealers have targets and stock to move.

Porsche should offer everyone a PCM upgrade for free or a nominal charge. They really upset a lot of customers back in 2005 when the first 997 and 987s arrived without TMC. I agree that disgruntled owners should make their feelings clearly known, otherwise Porsche will keep taking the mickey with PCM.

I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about having full postal codes on satnavs. I'm a Postman and the last 2 digits of the code only refer to the other side ( or very close) of the street/road you're looking for. So I certainly won't be paying £500 for this update. Not that I use satnav much; I'd rather get lost!

It's quite difficult if the address doesn't include a street or number eg. Rose Cottage, Arnington, or you're trying to find a unit on an industrial estate etc.

Not quite true, for example:

And the last mile or two is often the most difficult / unknown.

A few people have mentioned £10k discounts but provided no proof.

An OPC is more likely to overpay for the trade in as opposed to discounting the new car anyway. Thats what I would push for.

Its the same thing afterall.

Eh? No it isn't, well not in rural suffolk it isn't... if you look at the map for (say) IP21 5nn, that covers an area about 10 miles across and 8 miles north to south!

Sadly a 991 is now out of my comfort zone, even with a 10% discount.
