High mileage Cayennes???

I've noticed quite a few of these in 4.5 V8 format in the classifieds with well over 100k clocked up. So put of interest who's got/had one with monster miles on it?
They seem incredible value if they will go on and on. Lots of FFRR seem to have made north of 150k so I would imagine a Porka to be much better?

I have FFRR with 103k now. General stuff like engines are reliable, but electronics are a PITA. Something fails every few months.
I guess the Cayenne will be similar (ish). The advantage of the L322 is a lot of the gear is BMW.
There is also a growing internet fan base for these older cars which means cheap fixes for major problems are now more often on the cards meaning you can avoid main dealers. Its always good to have the support of a good indy garage though just for the bigger jobs.

Not crazy, but you'd be well advised to check:tyre wear - some eat fronts very unevenly, and its not as easy as tracking/alignment
coil packs
propshaft - if there's any wobble , walk away.
parking sensors - make sure they all work
gearbox transitions - make sure there's no "clunk", especially from reverse to drive
And ten thousand seems a bit steep - I watched my old Cayenne(04 with 106) go for £4500 odd in the auctions.
I'd still say go for it. We've a 2004 4.5 'S' with 91k miles on it now and really struggling to justify paying many multiples to get into something newer/lower mileage which offers similar levels of performance and all-round ability (note the new Cayenne Diesel S will be nearly £70k spec'd up)

But the thing is- how many other cars can you now buy for well under 5k+ which will do 0-60 in around 7 secs, 140+ flat out, and offer all the offroad & carrying capability and luxury? Oh, and 20k service intervals...not many IMO.

Less than £500 if you have on-tap mechanics, and know that the Touareg propshaft is exactly the same as the £795 plus VAT item from Porsche, and that there are perfectly good recon jobs out there. And when I'd had the damned thing fitted, the judder was still there at over (ahem) seventy and a bit. For us non-mechanical types, something like that is a big scary bill on the horizon, especially when income currently = zero.I would let mine go for 10k .. and its a 2006 !! (with air suspension + PASM, 20" rims, bose with subwoofer, dension bluetooth, multifunction wheel, cruise, new tyres/pads/discs, pcm with telephone module, tyre pressure monitoring, privacy glass, sports seats with memory, bi-xenons, park assist)
(its also had the all important ali coolant pipes done and a cardan shaft)

I reckon i win......04 Turbo.....248k miles,yes thats correct 248k.
Definately built to last,mine drives tight as a drum,no wear to seats,trim etc.As with any car just requires good maintenance (mine all OPC,actually same supplying dealer) The only 'problems' for me have been the odd electrical glitch which can be a PITA to solve.So long as you have access to a mech/tech who knows the cars foibles,all is well.I still maintain they are incredible bargains (looks aside!!)

I went to look at the one at 911virgin today - it was in really good condition inside and out. It needs new discs and pads on the rear and one of the lower rear wishbones needs replacing but every switch worked including the air suspension.
Thing is with the bonnet popped I could hear a tapping sound on tick over; it wasn't too loud but it was obvious.
Also there was no mention in the history of any gearbox/clutch work or any cam chains/cam belts being renewed - even though it has been serviced by OPC all it's life.
Any ideas to those experienced in all things Cayenne?

Nice to see you earlier. In direct response to your concerns over the engine, I'm more than happy to confirm publicly that the engine sounds exactly as it should do. The noise you refer to is a characteristic of the model in general and is audible when the bonnet is raised with the engine running. Had you expressed your concerns at the time I have another 4.5 V8 on site (now sold) that you could have listened to by way of comparison. Although an 06 car that has covered half the miles I'm confident there would have been no discernible difference in engine note. Hope that gives you some confidence, were there an issue we wouldn't have bought the car in the first place and I certainly wouldn't be happy to publicly endorse it. Hope that helps. The 911V car is same as my dirty daily workhorse and after looking at it, I will be getting mine cleaned tomorrow. That is a cracking looking car for £9K.
For me, if you are looking for a sub £10K cayenne I am not sure what more you can expect, it certainly looks like it would cost a lot more to the untrained eye
