High mileage Cayennes???
Discussion
So is 9k a good price for the 911v car? Having read some previous comments it seems mad that similar cars with less miles have sold for £4500 at auction. I'm down the pub and must admit I am a bit tempted to buy it but seeing as it hasn't been snapped up - is it value for money considering the mileage or is this just the beer influencing me?

So would I be crazy for considering one with 120k miles- although it does have a full Porsche service history for £10k?
Not crazy, but you'd be well advised to check:tyre wear - some eat fronts very unevenly, and its not as easy as tracking/alignment
coil packs
propshaft - if there's any wobble , walk away.
parking sensors - make sure they all work
gearbox transitions - make sure there's no "clunk", especially from reverse to drive
And ten thousand seems a bit steep - I watched my old Cayenne(04 with 106) go for £4500 odd in the auctions.

If you can find a bit more in the budget, I'm sure that with a little patience, you could find something with 30 to 40k less mileage for say £12,500, even if the plate is say 04/05. Would need a good history mind.
I'm happy to spend the money but at the same time I trust 911V. I fancy something I can abuse by throwing the hounds in the back of the car but still being able to hoon it.I've never had a car at such high mileage and dont know whether I'm brave enough to chance it lol

Yes but some cars are unloved and as a result absolute dogs. Plus the VW cannot be compared with the Porsche- Porsche have much higher quality control. I know the touareg shares quite a few components but then there are alot it doesn't AND these may be the ones that fail on a vw but not a porka
He's been pretty happy with the car - had it from new so over 8 yrs it's not massive mileage per year by any means. He had diesel engine problems a couple of years ago that cost several £K but that will be specific to VW and had transmission problems maybe a year ago that cost a couple of £K (don't know how much of the transmission is shared. The issue is it's only worth about £4K now so wouldn't need much to go wrong before he ended up spending more than it's worth or have to scrap the car It's basically reached the end of its economic life.
But that is the whole nature of secondhand cars/barges/bangernomics call it what you like. It must be near enough EVERY car out there that would technically be worth nothing based solely on the assumption that you cant/wont fix a 'major' fault.Me? I take the other view in that it means i can buy cars that were previously out of budget.80K new...buy for about £10k now, just got to buy well as with any car really.Sure they have the potential to cost, but what doesn't?
Buy.Enjoy.
Buy.Enjoy.

Not yet it hasn't - still needs to go wrong before condemning it to the scrapheap. Even then, it's the old question of what do you replace it with? Easy to lose much, much more than 4k by buying something brand new again. The issue is it's only worth about £4K now so wouldn't need much to go wrong before he ended up spending more than it's worth or have to scrap the car It's basically reached the end of its economic life.
Sometimes, sticking with what you know works just as well.

It's a balancing act - it's worth something now, vs next to nothing in the future, or literally nothing if almost anything goes wrong with it.Rollcage said:

Well, in this case a brand new BMW520d Touring, which is, according to him, going to effectively cost him under £200/mth based on how much he'll save per month on fuel. He's a Southerner, so he can't think any further than the monthly payment.Rollcage said:

That's what I'm doing with my Merc - it's 8yrs old too but it's 'worth' far more to me than I'd get if I sold it.12 months ago I bought an 04 turbo in black with extended 2 tone grey leather. Monster spec including full factory aero, sports exhausts, aluminium pack,Bose, tech art lowering module, technos, FSH with 4 new bridgestones plus new front and rear discs pads. Serviced before collection and full Mot. 115k. on clock and looked like it had never been sat in.
Off a forecourt... 12 K.
Was unlucky that the coolant pipes hadn't been done but sorted on the drive myself for £500.
Sourced individually and made a set of scabby 19s and part worn mud and snows on eBay for 175 quid.
Never let me down. Carries 3 mountain bikes to the forest every weekend on the cool roof rack.
Love the thing to bits and as a result the 911 had hardly turned a wheel in 12 months.
Probably still worth around what I paid for it now.
Get a turbo. Hold value better, mpg hardly different from a 4.5s. Peels your face off at warp factor 3 and has mega toys as standard.
Thus endeth the sermon.

before anyone gives a shout out for their own trouble free 2003 turbo "samplesize=1", yes, of course it's quite possible that you could buy ten 2003 turbos in a row and not have one single problem but the general advice still remains the same and that is to to buy a 2005-2006 turbo onwards
the same applies to an normally aspirated S but perhaps less important (2006 onwards)
