just had to replace a window regulator and rear washer jet, £730, ouch. stripping the door down to find out the problem, these cars are built bomb proof

then the battery decided to die and these batterys are rather large, £120

expensive week for the cayenne but that is all that has gone wrong in its life other than servicable items. i cant knock the car at all

That pretty much sums up ownership of these, built like a tank! Sure a few bits will play up now and again but on what car would it be any different?
Remember it is still very much a Porsche, with bits to match but most future costs are surely 'offset' by the incredibly cheap buy-in cost. The 911v car looks a good 'un,you have even just had a public response to one your main concerns, all good!

looking at the pictures of the one on 911V, then look at the pictures of the one on RSJ, both same colour, but for me the 911V car with the below bumperline plastics in black looks so much better than the RSJ car which has colour matched.

I have the same car but with 20 sport techno wheel & was going to get them refurb in the body colour but decided against it as these car are so big that it looks like 1 big slab of grey.

Apart from the badge - are these genuinely better than the VWs? I agree that the Cayennes look like an absolute bargain at these prices - especially given the comments about them being fairly bullet proof and well built. But there are a lot of VWs around the £10k mark, and with them you get the choice of diesel too. Are the Cayennes noticeably better than it's cousin, given the shared development / parts?

Cayanne are 70% rear drive, I think the VW's are more 50/50.

My misses, who granted knows nothing about cars said NO to the VW, I mean it was a none negotiation NO, but show her the Porsche & I am a mirical worker for getting such a car for that low price

When you start leaning on it and giving it th beans round some bends ... i very much doubt the VW will drive remotely the same. Certainly a RRsport, X5 and the Q7 dont drive in the properly sporty way a cayenne does, not even close IME. The cayenne is the suv for petrolheads and there isn't an alternative yet... they are an absolute riot.

I was told that, although they share the same generic platform and some driveline, the Porsche has its own design and development programme at Weissach, which results in a significantly different final product, especially in terms of driver dynamics.

That is something I've heard about them quite often, and I remember it being a comment in the reviews when they were first released. That the drive / handling is not what you'd expect for a car of that size. I must admit, I'm tempted myself - but I don't need 3 cars!

Hi all,

I note from this thread that a few of you are running V8's over a lot of miles ...

What's the overall mpg you are getting ?

I'm looking at V8 S models at the moment and possible Turbo if I can warrant it ...

If I could post a photo I'd show my trip display which shows 20.1 mpg year to date. Cayenne is totally different to drive than Q7 or Tourag. Expect less than 15 MPG if commuting though. Mine has 85,000 miles, half of them in my ownership since 2007.

Major ? What model is yours ?

I'm used to overall of 23 in my somewhat modified 57 plate Forester, and not doing the mileage anymore so 20 overall is not really a worry.

I think it would mainly be doing the general round town stuff and the odd run these days ... so I guess 30-40 most of the time and then some 70ish

Plus the odd blast down the country lanes

The all new Cayenne Diesel does a genuine 35 mpg, a service every two years, lower depreciation, and the tyres will last 30,000 mls - costly to buy, but cheaper to run.

Crikey that's terrible! I thought the S5 was bad at 18 - although when driven in anger it did drop to 11.8!

You going for the rather lovely example at 911v?

I'm getting about the same - just over 19mpg - from my Turbo, which even takes the odd trip into London.
