I bet the tyres were screwed after that sideways action at Llandow given the very abrasive surface there.

what i cannot understand is a caymanR/spyder both have less weight and more power and same mid engine layout but are slower(on paper)but should be quicker?is it all down to gearing or am i missing something.

just had a look on the web and car and driver actually run a manual spyder at 12.7secs 109mph.a few others are quoting under 13 secs so actually quicker!also 0-100 of 10.3secs.
so not slower!

Yes and CR did it in 12.5s. Also the thing with PDK R is that you can usually launch it faster without launch control. Some guy did numbers well below 4.0s to 60mph with manual launch of cayman R.

to be honest i can't remember it was 18 months ago, i would say between 3-4000 rpm, no side step though just dump it pretty quick. however i was surprised as i can't remember the 60ft time being that great... i'll see if i can dig out the slip

just looked at some pics, the terminal was 108.3 not 107.5

I actually doubt the PDK would be any quicker. It would be more consistent, yes, as every launch using the LC would be perfect. But, if-and-when you do get that occasional, perfect launch using a manual box, where's the difference? Importantly, the manual 'box car is lighter too. (Boxster uses a proper, relatively-light-weight, manual box; not an overweight PDK with a manual shift kit bolted-on like 991). Going on Porche's official timings, the Boxster S PDK (with sports chrono) car is two to three tenths quicker to 60mph than the manual and 3 tenths quicker to 100mph, the 911 C2 PDK 4 tenths and 7 tenths respectively.

The sports chrono probably accounts for a percentage of those gains as it ups the rev limiter by 500rpm on both cars and shifts even faster than standard PDK.

PDK makes a huge difference. I doubt anyone can launch a C2S to 60 in 3.5s, a non-S 997.2 turbo to 60 in 3.2 (2.8 according to one source) etc. Not sure if true, but isn't the gearing also longer on some PDK cars?

Sorry to say but LC is rubbish.. Did a number of 1/4 mile runs this summer at an event and without doubt all my quickest times were without LC i.e. sitting at idle and just flooring it on the green light.

What car?

Most of the recent systems manage wheel spin at the optimal slip %, they bring the cluch in much quicker and then slip the cluch or decrease clutch open times during gear changes.

Of course revs will also be held at optimal for the engine.

Something like a Ferrari / Lambo / Porsche system is going to be faster than 9/10 human launches. If the conditions are slightly out of optimal - cold, damp etc, then LC will be even more reliable (i.e faster).

Even the recent Audi systems are pretty good.

Great comparison... I just wish they would have compared the 981S against a base 991 cab instead of the coupe. But both of them are impressive!

Yes, for all of those people who eliminate a 981S as a possibility then decide between base 981 and base 991.

I drove a 997S PDK at Silverstone 2 years ago - I asked the instructor if we could try out launch control and was astonished by the acceleration - mentioned this to the guy and he said he had timed that particular car the day before in 3.9 secs to 60 and it felt believable.

2 years ago? - that would be a 997. 991 is quicker again! 3.5s reported on some tests. Bonkers quick smile

correct, it was 997 gen2..good marketing on the part of Porsche, after that day in Silverstone I flogged my 997 Gen1 and bought a Gen2..but not PDK stayed with manual
