2.5 Boxster Autosolo Issues – Oil Surge / Low Temp Stat

Afternoon.
I was going to use my Poverty Pork spec Boxster for the odd Autosolo (lots of 1st gear thrashing round a car park / airfield, with the odd handbrake turn for good measure), but wondered if either of the above could be a problem for this low speed, budget motorsport?

I understand there are baffle kits if you’re doing track work with sustained cornering, but not sure if it would be required here?

Any advise gratefully received.

Hello, I don't have a porka (looking at getting one though, hence me lurking among the Porsche thread) but have competed in around 5 autosolos this year and can't say I've ever come across any one having oil surge issues. The only car which I've seen puff smoke is a highly tuned Austin mini when turning from one direction to the next.

I think due to the nature of the courses being quite tight in most places you will always be going from one direction to the next which sould keep things well lubricated.

Personally the only issue I've even had with oil serge was at brans hatch Indy circuit after half a days track time the big end went in our scooby :-( but failures when competing in an autosolo are very low, hence it's low impact grass routes Motorsport :-)

I agree it should be fine but if you do want a baffled sump (or the equivalent thereof) Hartech make them. Neither of the race cars have had any engine issues all year, temp and pressures perfect etc, and we put them under a lot more strain than an Autosolo ever will. The other thing you may want to consider is a low temp thermostat and also fitting a central radiator (such as was standard on tiptronic models I think) to cope with cooling a high-revving engine whilst travelling more slowly.

Thanks for the advice.

Is the thermostat a DIY job or a indie? It looks like the part is only about £60+vat.
