996 C2 Odd noise ?
Discussion
Hi
I wonder if anyone has experienced a loud clicking sound whem manouvering/parking whilst on full lock ?
It is the same both in reverse and forward gear,it does'nt always do it.It is on the passenger side,I will take it into a specialist but just wondered if anyone had had a similar experience ?
I am no expert but wondered if it may be CV joint perhaps
many thanks
Mike

A possible explanation based on the vagueness of your description of the symptoms could be the tires are scrubbing when moving the car at low speed with full steering wheel lock.I wonder if anyone has experienced a loud clicking sound whem manouvering/parking whilst on full lock ?

The inside front tire makes much less contact with the road at full lock than the outside tire. Thus at slow speed the inside tire having less grip will scrub as it tris to follow a shorter route in the turn and of course fail since the outside tire with its more grip determines the route of the turn.
This scrubbing can be rather violent if the tires are age hardened and if the tires/pavement is cold. It can cause things to rattle if they're loose.
But get the car checked out for any other possible causes of noise and symptoms.
Sincerely,
Rockster.
