Was on my phone so was brief - that is what I'd prefer I think, I find a manual more engaging, but spent two hours crawling to and from Bayswater yesterday, and PDK would have been so much nicer IMHO, and, for me, doesn't ruin the weekend fun thing.
Personally I think the OP should wait til Spring and 981 launch now anyway - I'll look at my options next year too, and reckon CR might be in range by then thanks to 981 launch.
The 981 Cayman S will be about £70k i fear!Personally I think the OP should wait til Spring and 981 launch now anyway - I'll look at my options next year too, and reckon CR might be in range by then thanks to 981 launch.
I saw a fabulous Cayman R at Colchester Porsche last week but it has no aircon, no radio?
why wait for the new cayman it will have more weight and less power than a cr that ugly boxster 981 rear end and cost £60k.much rather have the better looking cr at circa £45k,its even better value than a 4 year old 58plate 997.
i am in the manual with pse corner but add to that short shift and sports chrono. pdk is a no no for me

Ha I'm so impulsive / impatient that I've convinced myself (and SWMBO)that i need to trade in the car soon as poss so to maximise the px value i am in the manual with pse corner but add to that short shift and sports chrono pdk is a no no for me

PSE, SC and PDK
The PDK box is perfectly fine around town, and the 7th gear gives a nice bump to economy on a cruise.
You'll get plenty of people bleating on about missing the engagement of the manual box - but unless you're so st at changing gear that each successful gearchange is cause for celebration, you really won't miss it.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Sport throttle mapping - 100% of throttle opening in about 50% of movement becomes a bit of a pain in most situations.
Otherwise, it works nicely.

Our deep understanding of the flat 6 Porsche® engine naturally led to our Engine Management software. Over the years we have perfected the art of software tuning, making substantial gains in horsepower and torque, while retaining drivability and most importantly reliability.
Here is a small sample of our software advancements versus what is available on the market…
FVD Software vs. the competition
- Software Programming can be done in the comfort and privacy of your own home or by one of our recommended dealers.
- You receive the FVD software file and the Original (OEM) software file for warranty and emissions testing purposes.
- All of the OEM engine software safety features are fully intact and are not disabled.
- Software is completely reversible and undetectable for dealer service / diagnostics / extended warranty.
- Our software accommodates 91-100 octane automatically (adjusts timing and knock sensors all the way up to 100 Octane), no need for a several expensive octane files.
- Customizable for your needs (larger turbo chargers, catalytic bypass / 100 cell exhausts, intercoolers, etc.) all for the same initial price.
- Raises the limits on OEM sensors for air intakes / larger throttle bodies and adjusts air fuel for increased performance.
- Individuals have the option of selecting where the program resides, in normal, sport mode or both.
- Automatically sets quicker responding tiptronic/ PDK parameters (for moderately tuned cars) directly on the ECU.
- Customers can specify left foot braking for track events so that the throttle does not cut out.
- We can turn off the secondary air pump for the addition of a motorsports oil separator.
- 100+ Octane maps can be made.
- Our hand held flash load tool holds up to 5-10 software maps (depending on the car)!
- Dyno Proven and comprehensively tested on the Autobahn, the race track and under daily driving conditions.
- 27 + years of software tuning knowledge on Porsche vehicles.
- 30-day money back guarantee! Not satisfied with the power, send it back no questions asked."

PDK and install FVD ecu mod to "enable" sports button.
I thought you could now have the Sport / Sport Plus buttons and functionality retro-installed by your OPC - without the Sports Chrono wart - on any 9*7. For a PDK car, it gives you the quick throttle-response mapping, faster gearchange mapping, backed-off PSM settings and LC functions. And you can still put a warranty on the car if you wish. Well it is not the same program but I would say much better than Porsche gives you. Warranty is of course gone after this.According to the Reading OPC, they can retro fit the Porsche Sport Mode Software (part number 9X7SM) for around £750. Which, considering the only gain I can see is better throttle response but no more power, and without the PSE or PDK would make very little difference to my mind. But everyone has their own point of view.

This ^^^^ It is less useful on a manual car as there's none of the (frankly essential) faster / hold-on-to-the-ratios-longer gearshift strategies you get with PDK. However, it's not 'just' the faster throttle map you get with a manual, you also get the less intrusive PSM settings. If you drive your car near/on/past the limit (hopefully not on a public road) this can make a huge difference.

I assume you also get the "harder" red line feature I bought a 2011 S manual a couple of months ago having tried both manual and PDK. I thought the PDK was great on maximum attack, but just didn't enjoy it as much when driving normally for some reason. I came out of an Elise though, so am probably more biased towards the manual - it's always going to be personal preference with these things.
Mine had pretty much everything I wanted but doesn't have a PSE - I'm toying with getting one (bought the car from an OPC, so want to keep the warranty). Has anyone had one retrofitted by an OPC? What sort of ballpark price are we looking at?
