For those not familiar with Bob's Dyno, it is the same as Posrche Motorsport and used to calibrate several racs series, if you also look some of the cars were way down on power ..... It's the truest Dyno iI know off ....

Which of course begs the question, how often and who calibrates the dyno . . . . ?

Ask Bob .... obviously some here are not aware of his superb reputation and race (old) engine expertise, there are some dyno's that will give you morewhistle

The dyno short changed that Cup by a whole load of power.
Carreraboy, did you see my post on the other thread suggesting you mention to the owner to stick it onto Modas and check alls well?

All a dyno needs to be for this is consistent, not accurate. So long as all engines are producing the same number it can be anything.

If I had a dyno I'd make it a bit optimistic like Bob's, not much business sense making it pessimistic.

He calibrates race cars for several Porsche race series, you had 993TT with expected 430BHP that made way less the last 964 was expecting over 300 which he had on a different Dyno and only made 247 BHP, a standard 968 made 233 BHP, yes there were some higher than expected readings, so a wide range of results ..... Anyway it was a fun day, well supported from Pistonheaders and club members ... doing it again next year, you are all invited.

For what it is worth we have had our cars on three local dynos and Bob Watson's and they all give different results - Bob Watson's by far the lowest figures by quite a margin.

True all dynos are only useful as accurate reliable comparators - except if your compliance with a race bhp limit relies on a designated control dyno - which was Bob Watson's.

Now we have our own dyno - just fitted and ready and our intention was to align our dyno with Bob's so we can work on the allowable changes to the DME settings to get as close as possible to the allowed limits but be just inside them.

That has all been thrown out now as we don't know which dyni will become the control one for the PCGB Championship - or what figures it will provide - so cannot start our own winter tune up until we do and then we have to check the results (wherever that is) and align our dyno with those.

With Bob's always being lower - if the control dyno was one of our other local ones - many of the cars we have had tested locally here would already exceed the Championship limits!

He clocked mine at 229 bhp, after 209 bhp diagnostic. Lovey guy. Serviced mine regularly. Shame he's gone.

It's a real shame reading this. Bob has looked after my 64RS for the past few years and he always came across as a genuine, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable guy. He always had time to chat and stood out as one of the only specialists I've used who would greet me by name and shake my hand on arrival.

I don't know the full story and the fact there was no announcement by Bob or James doesn't bode well. I would welcome anyone who does know what's going on to post here or drop me an email - retirement? financial difficulty? selling the business?
