Im considering a GT3 with a sunroof. Its a non CS and has everything going for it spec wise but this sun roof...

I love a sunroof on the appropriate car but is it out of place on the GT3? Is it something thats going to cause me issue come the time to sell?

Not a problem but I personally would not have a sun roof on any car, too noisey and bright. Most others would like the roof though. When I ordered my 7.1GT3 in 2007 a roof was an option but I ve never seen one fitted.

Sunroof on a 911 vomit

It adds weight in the wrong place, complexity, potential rattles and spoils the clean roof line. And they don't work very well. All IMO of course.

On a GT3, it may be a non-UK spec car, so worth checking

I get the whole weight in the wrong place but I really cant see how Joe Public will see any difference. A bit like the CF roof on the ol' CSL.

How would I know if its non UK spec?

I have a red 997.1 GT3 in comfort spec with a sunroof, I'm 6ft 2 and don't have any headroom issues and being as I have no intention of pounding the car around tracks its fine, when I go to Europe on a nice sunny day the sunroof open is nice and also has the added benefit of letting me hear even more of that mezger engine noise.

Pete, when you have the sunroof closed can you still see the glass or is there a cover that you can pull over to seal it off?

Comfort spec & sunroof sounds great to me. Some folks like em, some don't I guess.

Had sunroofs on my air cooled 911s after probably 10 years of not having one & I loved them.

As above, buy what makes you happy thumbup

Mine has a sunroof - no particular requirement but also no problem to me as it was on the car anyway - I wanted a focused road car after my Exige, not a race car and this one fitted the bill.

The roof doesn't rattle, leak, take up any of my headroom (6ft tall), alter the shape of the roof/profile of the car (still looks like a 911 to me?) or any of the other bks issues that are often quoted and it does what it should do, allows extra ventilation on tilt and let's the sun in (when it's out!) if opened.

As for the weight thing - I haven't managed to roll the car yet, so guess that is another non-issue (for me anyway)?

The sunroof will be steel and painted, not glass?

Check the pic in "my garage" - you can just make it out.

Ah, I presumed it was glass (its a black car - not seen in flesh). So when closed, it'll be alcantara lined and almost seamless to the eye?

As has been mentioned the panel is metal and painted body colour and on the inside the alcantara headlining is perfectly matching.

You don't notice it at all unless it's open, to be fair it's a non issue, if it didn't have a sunroof it wouldn't bother me either, it's just a nice addition , that being said if I was buying as a track day toy I'd want an RS without a sunroof and with the cage.

Yes, just a rectangular depression in the alcantara - you don't notice it TBH.

There is a country of original import code in the service/warranty booklet.

Should be a C16 code for a UK car?

Sunroof every time in my opinion. I had a C4 Cabriolet for 5 years & never a convertible again. The roof is either 'up' or down' which gives no flexibility when it's
a partly grey day.

The great aspect of a sunroof is having partial opening, and the fresh air flowing.

Sunroof in all my cars ! every time ..

If i was to have a gt3 again, it would have to have a sunroof.

Original 73rs could have one.

A reason? The sound alone should be enough.

Sod the nay sayers.

It was a factory option for non clubsport cars - it wouldn't put me off if i was buying a 'comfort' spec GT3. Quite the opposite in fact, probably indicative that it wasn't nailed on the track by previous owners. Quite a few of the USA GT3's were specced with a sr, but only a few UK c16 cars tbok.

The sunroof was a 'non-delete' option on US 997 GT3.1s, and many of them hated it.
