i drove 3 tips to be sure as i hadnt driven one before.i went manual in the end as i couldnt live with it.
also bought one with a recent clutch plus it had the modified ims seal doen at the same time so no worries there now.and i feel the misshaped bores etc may come from tips pulling away in 2nd gear rather than first.using the torque at low revs doing the damaged that hartech talk about alot?

I have driving Tip Turbo's and haven't bothered with a Tip C4S, made my mind up that I want a manual in either car, hated the Tip tbh, pressing buttons to change gears doesn't seem 'natural' !

Noticeable lack of any decent C4S or Turbos currently in the classifieds, hoping new year will prompt some cars to fill the market...

Ideal spec for me for C4S

Lapis Blue
Black leather
Cabriolet
Manual
PSE

So if anyone has one of that spec and is toying with the idea of selling, PM me! smile

You're nearly there, but I would advise you re-prioritise your ideal spec as "the" car may never come up for sale.

Maybe your list should say:
Cabriolet
Manual
then
PSE
then
Lapis Blue or colour B or colour C
Black leather 1st choice, dark blue or grey 2nd choice, not Savannah

Or you may find your ideal spec and buy it because of that, rather than because it's the right condition or price

How long has that been on for......advert warranty and not dates have expired??

I would think there sits a 25~26k car.

Why buy that over a 997 cab?

My point was at 28 it was over priced.
For me I would agree a 997 is a better looking cab:

But if you want a 4S a 997 starts here:

Without PSE

Yes i thought it was more like a 25k car, 28 is 997 territory

All 4 wheels show kerning scrapes too, so refurbs would have to be taken into consideration

very confusing

this is less money, newer model and 3.8, but not the cab model....

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

so how can the cab be at 28k on the old model 2004!?

IMS, like RMS, is just a seal. Remember it's the IMS bearing that does the damage. Porsche won't have changed that.

ah right ok, thanks

so having the both 'seals' changed under warranty is no big deal really....

It's common for these seals to ooze a bit of oil. You might not even spot it on the drive. Most of us sort it out when we get the clutch done.

My C2 has had more than one RMS seal; Porsche warranty don't just send the money off these days, so they have to take pics.

My C4S has LN Engineering IMS bearing, which should last a few years. Whilst the clutch and flywheel were being replaced it seemed to make sense. This makes a better buy than a car that just has new seals.

There are other places you might see oil from. The C4S had a leaking oil pressure sender that needed tightening. OPC thought it was the cam cover at the time. Indy sorted it.

I can understand your being tempted by a turbo but allow me to share my experience:

I owned a 996 X50 turbo with DMS remap for a year. 525 hp with all the trimmings (except pse which may have helped). Overall it's not a particularly entertaining car. If you're buying to use as a daily driver then the turbo makes good sense - its comfortable and effortless at all times and gives a steady 23 mpg. However, it feels rather heavy, the steering is far from inspiring and once you get used to the performance (which eventually we always do) you realise it's a bit of a one trick pony. Then there are costs: 5 radiators to worry about and suspension... The best piece of advice I ever ignored was given to me before I bought the turbo. Someone on here told me any 996 turbo will need at least £3k of suspension work before it rides and handles as it did new. He was ridiculed by others and I ignored him. He was right. It's a heavy car and the dampers and bushes, etc etc will be screwed unless they've been done already.

Buy the c4s - it's lighter, more nimble and more genuinely a sports car than the turbo. Less is definitely more.

For the kind of money being discussed here, I know where there might be a very nice GT3Mk1 for sale if you are interested.

Nudge nudge wink wink.

This looks like it would fit the bill, I'm sure being November a deal could be done and it's got nearly a years Porsche warranty.

is it lighter? the c4s runs all the suspension and brakes and wheels and arches from the turbo.i assume the bills wouldve been the same on the suspension and the weight very similar?
