RMS - Slight oil leak
Discussion
Just got my wifes Boxster back from it's service and the report says that the RMS has a 'slight oil leak'
now I know there have been loads of threads on this but can you tell me if I need to get this sorted right away or can I leave it to see if it gets worse?
Plus how much will it cost to fix?
Thanks
Simon
but on the bright side the 993 C2 is fab!

Simon,
I've got a 2001 Boxster S.
I was given the same information from my OPC when the car was in a while back. Then, it was due its service a few months ago and they said the RMS leak had stopped. I said this sounded suspicious. I asked them if they had said it because I had said to them (when the leak was diagnosed first time) that I WOULD NOT be paying for the repair and that I would expect them to. In the end, they gave it to me in writing that the oil leak had stopped, or that it wasn't present on inspecting the seal the second time.
I think you don't have to worry about this problem like you would an over-heating engine. However, it will need sorting in the next couple of months. Can I suggest you ask for the job to be done free of charge? I would ask for this regardless of whether the car is still under warranty or not. Talk to the dealer principle if necessary. Talk to Porsche GB too if you have to. I have heard enough about this problem enough times to know that if you shout loud enough and long enough, it will be done for you for nowt.
On the other hand.....have a look at the thread on the Porsche Car Club Forum, Boxster section, about this problem. Some people reckon that if the RMS leaks once, it will again even after replacement unless the engine is rebuilt!! Hmmmmmmmm.
