If you put something on a forum, people will comment.

Perhaps OP's next long post will make more use of the return key, the comma and the full stop and will therefore be much easier to read.

Or maybe not.

I realise that spelling, punctuation and grammar may not be important to some - yet the same 'anything goes' merchants go mental if someone has the full stop the wrong size in a 2.7 RS badge.

Perfectly happy to be called a 'd*ck' for having this opinion - I'll still believe I'm right!

This has the potential to be a very interesting thread (aside from the grammar police). Would be good to have updates and photos of the car as work is progressed?

I am surprised that no-one has asked already, and obviously you may not wish to disclose on here, but given the amount spent previously (you say £200k all in all), can I ask what you paid for it? It would be a very difficult car to value and I for one have no idea at all what something like this would be worth?
is it diffult to value a money pit of a weird 'evocation' (most polite term) wink?

as per another thread would love to see an OPC's 'offer'

You ARE right. Grammar's gone to pot.

well i can't really say what i paid for it but what nigel said to me was don't go made and spend a fortune on it,i think i need to spend 8k on the car when totally finished, what it would be worth i dont know. But some of the lads on this forum spend up to that on there hot hatch cars and will not get alot back when they sell sell there cars, but that's there choice,i think i would get my money back if i ever sold it.But what i must say we all like different thing's and we must respect people for that, and what people can afford for there pride and joys.

Hi Guys I’ve just became a member of the forum. I’ve been Porsche mad for years I like all the 911 range from early 911's to the latest model. There were a few guys talking about Nigel Benn’s car which was filmed in the programme back in dec last year.

When I moved to Majorca in 2003 I got to know Nigel very well and having a valeting background I cleaned and polished the car many times at the house at the time it was metallic white with white seats piped black. The interior looked a little tired but still ok, the car was still nice.

We went to a wheel specialist in Palma and put new 5 spoke chrome wheels plus tyres on the car, cost 6000 Euros. They did look nice on the car it got rid of those chrome 3 spoke wheels that a lot of people didn’t like, and to be honest some people just don’t like things that are not original which is fair comment, but I can tell you when we parked this car in porta portals marina there were astons, ferraris, lambos, bentleys all over the place but this was one of the most looked at cars in the port.

At the time he also had a Cadillac escalade even when he had his new Bentley Azure 250k's worth he still loved the Porsche. Before I moved back to the UK he said he might get it painted black and re-trim the interior black. Well black is not that forgiving when it comes to panels and paint finish with grp or fibre glass so maybe would not look that good in black. What do you know when I went to visit him it was done plus an engine rebuild paid for twice after a guy ran off with the parts money, another 7000euro's.

So Nigel said enough is enough he can't spend no more money on the car. I said I would love the car but it wasn’t the right time for me. With a hand shake and a price agreed, the car was covered and left for 18 months which didn’t do it much good. I got the car feb 2011 where it was spotted on the back of a transporter with the C BENN reg plates still on.

He paid 140,000 dollars for the car in 94 in LA I think the car was custom built there with the 959 body by the first owner from new I need to confirm this, a company built so many for wealthy people as 959's could not be imported due to crash testing, customs needed 4 to get crash test data Porsche wouldn’t give them.

Nigel sees the car in a showroom in LA and had to have it. It came back to the UK in 96 converted to rhd maybe by the boys in Beckenham Kent, I know they did a lot of work on the car. The car is a 1990 964 carrera 4 cab, it’s not got a turbo engine. Speaking to Nigel and his wife Caroline they said with buying the car, colour changes, 4 interior changes, LHD to RHD conversion plus much more must have come to nearly 200k in the cars life with him.

It’s my project for spring next year I’ve got lots of work to do its going back to white needs a full repaint, interior, hood plus all rubbers , wheel referb, etc but it’s got the making of a nice car. it’s still undercover. Hope this fills you in a little. this is my first Porsche I just love the car I’ve had so many offers to sell it but I need to bring the car back to as new condition and have some fun first. I would love to hear from any of you that are just new into your first Porsche early 911-964.
Edited because it's a good PH story and should be interesting to follow.

would this be sufficient edited highlights of the cool story so far?

weird car mash up, ex boxer spends a fortune on it relative to its value, can't / won't do it anymore, sits for 18 months, sold to car washer, thread started for interesting restoration / future sale interest, op mentions exboxer at every opportunity

Personally I'd like you to stick around and see the progress of the car as you bring it back to life.

If you do, then the best bit about projects like this is to see the progression from when you start to the finish. Forget posting now and then leaving us dangling until an age has passed and only get the final shots.

C'mon, there are genuine people on here who want, with interest, to see how things work out.

Good luck with doing it fella smile

You need to get that chip removed from your shoulder mate! You don't like his car, big deal, get over it! Every post from you is negative towards the OP's car or him self, it's weird!

People who get all hot and bothered about punctuation obviously have too much time on their hands, don't listen to them.

Sounds like a cool project, and it's a cool story!

Enjoy

Don't let it get to you Gary. It is an interesting project. Whether I think the car is the dogs danglies or a dogs dinner is inmaterial. It is still a fascinating project. Bruce is a good guy by the way.

Correcting somebody's grammar is just rude. Probably deters interesting stories from being posted by PH ers

Well done to the grammar & spelling police idiots.

This could have been a fascinating thread with a semi famous car with a history. The original post could have done with some punctuation but instead they take the piss and manage to twist the thread to make it completely unreadable (Slaav) by being idiots.

Well done chaps a credit to PH..

OP, Please stick around, PH could do with more people with interesting cars instead of keyboard warriors.

Hi Gary,

Don't let these replys get to you. I've been here a while and am genuinely surprised and saddened at the attitude to your post especially to such a new poster.

There are a lot of really great people on here so give ph a chance, and keep us posted on the build. I was a huge fan of Nigel Benn, his wars with eubank were epic so the personal side of this is quite cool too.

Cheers

This is a fair and reasonable post - I did try (and failed) to convey my own interest in seeing this project from start to finish.

I also tried (and failed) to inject some humour by showing how hard it can be to read some posts - BUT I DID POINT OUT THAT THE OP WAS OK (or so I thought.)

I read it, and understood it! ANd it well and truly caught my interest.

I regret making a 'funny' (OK, not that funny) but didnt want to get all serious and then get myself picked up by some speeling Nazi - I always type THE as TEH for some reason.

OP/Gary, please ignore the totally offensive ones and take some of teh 'humour' the way it is intended (but clumsily written.) For my own post, I apologise and hope I have not contributed to the possible death of what is undoubtedly an interesting thread about an interesting project.

I saw a 959 in a Shell in Fulham a while ago and walked over to take a picture - then thought twice for some reason... I was again a muppet as loved them and grew up with them as the ultimate for a while.

WHilst not a 959, yours is a car with more 'history' and back story than 99% of cars.

Please keep the story going and hopefully now that the original post has been removed, but luckily quoted, the thread will continue with YOUR help Gary.

Genuinely inteersted - honestly and still apologetic for making a joke/point that didn't need making.
