Hi,

Well I have finally mangaed to upload some onboard video footage from Sunday!

A fantastic day and perfect weather through out the whole day too. There were quite a lot of Saab cars and the track was busy at times so could never really put any decent times down, think I mangaed a 1.17 which is not bad but was hoping for a 1.14 !

I have gone through Craner curves at 120MPH which is 4MPH faster than when I had a spin earlier this year.

Pretty happy with the car and looking forward to RS day next March. I have mangaged to do around 13 trackdays this year in the GT3 and feel like both the car and I have come on laods over the year now that the suspension is sorted and those Michelin Cup tyres are amazing. Drove to Spa did 400 miles around Spa over two days and drove back that was 1300 miles total, did a full day at Donington and I reckon I have another full day left in the tyres !

For those that are intersted here some video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ak5ySntHU0&sns... (better quality now!) Make sure you select the hd option in settings on youtube..

Thanks,

Mike

BASICALLY I'VE COPIED ADE'S CAR & GOT HIM TO TEACH ME HOW TO TRACK DRIVE. You're right, that was way too busy for a trackday! BTW did you know the driver of turbo in the first part of the video?

Which TDO was that with? It looks like most of those cars had taken a wrong turn somewhere looking for airport parking.

Hi Mike.

Firstly hello to all as this is my first post... even though ive been lurking on here for years.

I was also at Donington on the weekend in a Silver 996T. My cousins car is actually the grey 996T you were chasing down. You were going very well. I didnt actually see you much when I was out in my car as we kept missing each other. Not sure how you feel the day went but we were very frustrated due to quality of driving and incidents. The speed differential between some of our cars was ridiculous. how can you have ferrari challenge cars go around with saab estates ? Asking for trouble.

Maybe catch you next time. Silverstone 8th Dec is next outting for us.

P.s. What camera are you using ? ... think you need to ask Santa for a gopro smile

Hello

This is both an interesting and informative video on so many levels.

Firstly due to the difference in speeds of the various cars it would in my opinion have been better to have seperate sessions - as we all know with track days it's usually based on experience rather than speed so I think that's out.

Which leads me nicely to the following points - You seem to handle your car very well and judging by the evidence then so does the 911 Turbo Driver you were "Racing" with but in my humble opinion you were doing just that - RACING with the 911 Turbo - you could quite easily have lost it on at least one occasion in the video when you went over the rumble strips whilst trying to overtake the Turbo on the outside when at the same time overtaking slower cars - some of the slower cars were perhaps being bullied by the Turbo and possibly yourself and the tailgating evident by the Turbo was just not on - you did hold back whilst this was happening which I applaud you for - obviously some of the slower Drivers where not as experienced and thus perhaps didn't look in their mirrors (Happens in actual Race conditions all the time in both Qualifying and Race)

Racing and Timing is not allowed on Track days - you were obviously doing both and had I been an organiser of this event I would have Black Flagged the pair of you and had a word!

My points are made in a firm but sensible manner and are not intended to be inflamatory although i'm sure that's the way it will read!

Regards
MF

I don't see any timing ? I just was recording the event and when I got home just timed the lap on the TV ? As for racing I don't know what you mean smile

I was trying to get past the turbo but was 100BHP down and he just had it on the straights. Brilliant little battle. I have used Iphone 4S but somehow lost the quality on upload to youtube.

Ok Mike I take your point about the timing but when you refer to " a good battle" you have to agree that it's obvious you wanted to take him and until he yielded right at the end of the video clip I'd suggest he wasn't letting you past!

C'mon you must see that - watch the clip again!

If it had been a race it would have been fun to watch you dicing and I'm sure you'd have swapped positions a time or two regardless of the difference in BHP.

I'm more concerned about your cars and the cars of the other people on track staying in one piece due to a culmination of lots of ingredients coming together and ending in disaster - I've seen it so many times and it's a shame.

Take up Racing I think you'd do well or do you compete already - that's the arena for you methinks ? I know you're a Porsche Specialist so perhaps that would appeal ?

Mr Freight.

You do make some valid points there, however, slower / less experienced drivers need to be aware of whats going on around them and move over when in a safe place to do so. The amount of cars that were sitting in the middle or on the left down the straight was ridiculous. ( NB: Only allowed to over take on the left.

Also, keeping pace with the vehicle in front of you , at a distant you are comfortable with, is hardly racing. There were no cut up,diving down the insides etc.... or playful and fun. Complete novices should be in NOVICE only trackdays/sessions IMHO. Its the only way to keep things fair.

Futhermore, trackdays are very funny, however participants must know the risk. Some tt dropped oil all over the circuit and sent me flying off. Luckily not too much damage just a splitter. this tme.

Mike .. just to let you know... I think you might have been more than 100hp down on the 997 turbo wink.. so you did very well to battle like that. 996 turbo was also big power and well setup but inexperienced track driver... first true trackday.

Some of the slower vehicles had issues I grant you that but it was patently obvious that the 2 X 911's were far and away the quicker vehicles on the session and would seem to "come upon" the slower people very quickly - nature of the beast I suppose - some of the "slower" drivers seemed more disiplined/aware than others but once again that's what you get on these days.

Look at the clip at 4:45 ish and then tell me that wasn't an attempt at an overtaking manouvre?

Dave

yep I see your point.. that was a bit punchy haha..... To be fair I was probably guilted of a portion of bullying myself. The 997T driver was not submitting to anyone though... including me until the straight were had enough room to pass.

Even more evidence as to why I no longer participate in track days and consider racing safer!!

Some good fast driving but the mobile chicanes are too plentiful and apt to do daft things.

To each his own I guess!
