Thanks Bert appreciate your possitive post he he. It was only tricky as the owners knew that they had my matching numbers engine in their car so had to pay more than I really wanted for the car. They were both a pleasure to deal with though.
The car drives great with the original engine now installed. The car did have an S engine already in it but not the original matching numbers engine. Its one of those rare stories that don't happen often and everything just feel into place.

Ditto pete.g. You don't know me so calling me a PITA is offensive in the first place over a car for god sake.I didn't like your tone either. Im sure we are all here to discuss the love of cars not using the platform to insult each other. I am open to criticism when it's constructive and not patronising or rude.
You must remember I wasn't the one who started the first post some years back to imply something sinister was going on. I have only tried to rectify it here. I have no problem my car coming up in a Google search long after I am gone as long as the other side of the story is told to balance it out.
I beleive ive done that with a few PITA'S thrown at me.
No hard feelings. Us guys do get hot under the collar when another man is talking bad about his lady. Thanks

I think it's a great story of getting the right engine back in the car, but I don't think you need to be too worried about this thread somehow demeaning the car!

If buying an 911S a prospective purchaser will do the following due to the value of these cars these days

1/ Get the chassis number, build number and engine number stampings x-rayed to ensure nothing has been tampered with

2/ Get Porsche to confirm the build number matches the chassis number from the factory records.

3/ Get Porsche to confirm the rest of the details of the car.

4/ Get an expert to asses the car for correctness and quality of any restoration work.

All the he says, she says stuff is a nice background story but not that relevant in my opinion :- )

I've been to many a Porsche gathering, many at the Ace Café. The things that I've overheard over the years have cemented the fact that owning such a vehicle does not make you knowledgeable about them.

The fact that an ex owner of said car can't admit to knowing about his old car doesn't surprise me in the slightest. The fact that he has put his fingers in his ears to not hear the truth, does.

As for a comment above saying that my575manual2005 posting style is not liked, wood and trees comes to mind. biggrin

my575manual2005, your passion for cars comes across in spades. As others have said, this thread is inconsequential to the lovely car that you own.

Well, I've read this thread twice and have to conclude I feel for 575

He's been on a journey, no doubt personally taxing plus financially draining. The result would appear a peach of a car which, now blessed with correct configuration and is a very desirable automobile.
However, compiling documented archive history on an old motor can be no easy feat. Again this can drain the brain and take imeasurable effort and patience.

It simply looks like 575 is finally crossing t's and dotting i's and ol rusty is feeling a bit crusty.

Remember 575 your now sitting pretty (and good on you) but your fellow comrades rarely like to see a winner. We'd rather marvel at misfortune or a loss. Imagine if you'd asked for confirmation the other way around. You'd bought this lovely old 911 S but going through painstaking research you'd discovered it's a T and has always been a T and you'd been the one who hadn't checked authenticity etc
You can bet your bottom dollar ol rusty would be flat out to oblique and confirm your misfortune

Bring on the V5's I say

Thanks all. Some people get immense pleasure seeing somone fall or fail. It's such a shame it's not one of you many now who have posted such possitive comments who owned the car for some months in 1978. I am sure you all would have been more than happy to have seen the docs and proof and then coming back to the forum with a possitive post.
I really appreciate all the comments made. Your all now part of the PITA club along with me. At least we are a possitive bunch of car nuts he he.

Beautiful car! Must be great to drive. My 69 car has an E spec 2.0 in it which is pretty good. I'd love an S spec motor though. Is yours on MFI or carbs?
Bert

PS are you sure its not a 'T'? biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Hi PS 2018, does that stand for Paul Stephens? Yes car had glass out respray during restoration between August 1997 and September 2000.
Owner spent a lot of money on the car. Its only done 30.000 miles since 1994 and approximately 25.000 miles since 2000 after the restoration.
