Help stuck can't open fuel filler

Next time you are in an OPC go and inspect the emergency fuel flap opener and the plastic trim it fits in, its quite frankly appalling, 'engineering excellence and innovation' you say, hmmmmm.
I have to admit I was quite shocked by this. We are talking horrible nasty plastic that isn't fit for purpose and has no place in a £100k car. This brings to mind the bit in Steve Job's biography where it talks about the attention to detail particularly around the bits you can't see. I know it's a digression - I didn't start it but sorry anyway....... I think apple gave up innovating several years ago. They're now horizontally deploying book shelved tech (eg retina display etc) and reducing manufacturing cost as they up issue the model year of the products.....maybe innovation gets more risky as your turnover gets larger ? Attention to detail only works when its hand in hand with the main ''business needs'
Sticky solenoids are just shabby engineering in every way - lets hope it's because they were all focused on the really important stuff ! This smacks of where merc found themselves around 2000 - trading on a quality marque but cutting corners everywhere.
They can make up for this kind of problem with brilliant after sales care - but sounds like this is sadly lacking as well.

Feeling a bit pee'd off as I had a puncture 3 weeks ago which was just bad luck and had to wait a couple of days for a new one, then I've been very busy working and haven't used it since so I thought I'd be able to go play over Christmas but not now. Now then I will ring the OPC first thing and see did they have another they can lend me but they probably say call Porsche Assist but with it being Christmas Eve I can't wait in all day for them like last time so ill lock it away and worry about it in the new year.
Its amazing how many ars holes laugh at you when you get stuck in a Porsche.
Its like you are some kind of knob they can openly laugh at.
I broke down right on margaret street junction with oxford st w1 once.
Had dicks in white vans laughing at me, it was great.
Join AA recovery, they're good at stuff like this, and can recover the car when your in trouble.

The unwashed (shouldn't say that - I mean many people in society today)definitely like to see a Porsche in trouble. Remember the video of the Carrera GT which crashed near Reading a few weeks ago. The person taking the film couldn't believe how funny it was.Its like you are some kind of knob they can openly laugh at.

No the OPC has no cars they can (or will) lend me so its Porsche assist, but I can't waste the day waiting for them what with the time of year an all, they won't order any parts until they have seen the car (I guess I knew that) so it'll be an ornament in the garage for a little while.
I'll let you know the outcome and if there is a 'trick' to getting it open if it happens to anyone else.
Merry Christmas :-)

Sounds like deja vu. I'll let you know the outcome and if there is a 'trick' to getting it open if it happens to anyone else.

The trick is to get Porsche Assist to remove the solenoid from under the wheel arch and it can be done without removing a wheel. But it needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing and not all Porsche Assist recovery trucks are created equal as I discovered.
You're lucky this didn't happen to you hundreds of miles away from home and in the middle of the night. I had an absolute nightmare getting it sorted and on my return home wasn't particularly impressed when my OPC told me they had no cars too.
Like I said I was very upset indeed.
