Power of ph in action here. You would be gutted to buy that car at that price when really nice straight ones aren't that much more. I am surprised a dealer would bother given the hassle he will have selling it unless he paid peanuts for it or its sor

I looked at the car 3 years ago when the second owner was selling it, after i saw it i discovered the story
he bought it from a salvage dealer on ebay, and it had no service book, and had been damaged on a trackday but no insurance claim made.
it had been painted poorly down both sides, filler or sanding marks in the roof , on the rear nearside corner, non genuine rear bootlid/spoiler, i thought it had a new rear wing, interior trim not fitting properly around the b post,
the car was briefly at Ferrarin specialist on sale or return ( 2days, before he spotted the damage) then to Hendon way Motors on SOR, then the owner sold it to one of the Sytner buyers who took it to Porsche Mid Sussex, who when they put it on a ramp, discovered the front suspension was held on by one bolt, i imagine they put the car through a car auctionas it appeared at Car Solutions in Lincoln and then Keighleigh trade centre, I think i ve been offered it at least 5 times over the past few years.
Remember the car well as the second owner threatened to sue me as he was trying to sell the car to a trader who offred it to me before he bought it and i told him not to bother going to look at it,
This car really needs breaking for spares, its not exactly enhancing the reputation of the motor trade is it!!!

Plus, I wouldn't buy anything that's been near KFC, some very bad stories emanated from that place.

The Colonel is known for thrashing his cars from cold, etc. No amount of special herbs and spices can hide that! wink

Ouch, it was worse than I remembered.

The power of PH again, glad I have this resource for when I start poking around for mine this year.

You could have a £90k car, crash it, insurer spends £30k repairing it. This wouldn't be recorded as a Cat anything on any register. Your car is only recorded as a Cat D or whatever if it is written off. i.e. uneconomic to repair. It appears that many people wrongly believe that any insurance claim is recorded by HPI or whoever.

As the original poster on this, I must say that although nothing is proven as yet on paper or with pics and a lot is hear say. Mark at Sterlings has gone beyond the call of duty with his honesty and info . I am sincerely glad that I did not buy this car as it stands at present in its unknown state, I am not a rich man and anything like his could turn a dream car with the prospect of losing a bit of a fair chunk over a year or 3 on hp in to a serious mare!!! ... I do feel sorry for the owner, and the people that are selling this on SOR have been very very decent.. As a time served classic car (camper van) dealer I am humbled by the help of people on this forum

What I would say though is that although a car came from somewhere with a possible bad image it does not mean the car is dodgy without proof? these sort of assumptions could cost any owner a huge dent of value???? without reason? any dealer could have a bad one by accident? I only say this in reply to people judging a car where it came from not in the light of the info made available.

clean until proven written off? I still cannot understand why someone for example would pay for damages on a £100k car if it is only a small -lets say £30k-crash for example? it all does not make sense... unless DD crash, track day off etc??

my last 996 gt3 was stolen by a member of my staff, it was borderline wright off, ripped off n/s wing, bonnet ripped off, both air bags deployed, n/s door, wing mullered, most worrying coolant pipes torn off... in then end after a 2nd assessment on my asking it was written off, was very much touch and go... car has now gone to somewhere East of our European community I think, sure to return.........

Can't say I'm entirely sure what you are getting at here? Some people risk tracking their cars without comprehensive insurance cover for the event, so in the event of a crash your options would be to sell the car as salvage(to be broken for parts or repaired) or have it repaired yourself(which would likely go unrecorded).

That is part of the reason why so many people suggest you have comprehensive inspections undertaken on cars like these.

The aforementioned dubious dealership that this car is associated with would throw up a caution to any prudent buyer given their dire reputation. A thorough inspection should reveal the truth but in this case someone has stepped up with information that they are vouching for to save you the cost and disappointment. If the seller believes this story is inaccurate and wants to dispute this info the best way would surely to be to pay for an independent inspection himself.

As above, unless the car is written off then an insurance claim is not recorded as a 'cat' anything.

Noticed this was up for sale at Silverstone auctions today. Reached £59000, and did not meet reserve.

1 I can't believe the auctioneers description

Does PH not have a naming and shaming policy, and how is it operating with this thread if they do ? If not, no problem, keep at it !

Wish I'd taken more interest in it when I was there.

It's an auction, they'll sell anything!!!
